Service Stability message...

Recommended Posts

I was driving my new Tahoe today when the chimes went off and a "Service Stability" code displayed on the console. It was also accompanied with the red parking brake symbol. It only came on for about 2 seconds and cleared. It has not happened since.

I called On-Star just to see if they might know anything about the message. They didn't have any information regarding the message, but did run a diagnostic check on the truck and it showed everything normal.

Anyone have any information on this? Should I follow up with the service department?

Thanks

I found some specific information regarding this DIC message in my owner's manual:

"SERVICE STABILITY

If you ever see the SERVICE STABILITY message, it

means there may be a problem with your StabiliTrak®

system. If you see this message, try to reset the system.

Stop; turn off the engine; then start the engine again.

If the SERVICE STABILITY message still comes

on, it means there is a problem. You should see your

GM dealer for service. The vehicle is safe to drive,

however, you do not have the benefit of StabiliTrak®, so

reduce your speed and drive accordingly. Pressing

any of the four DIC buttons will acknowledge the

message and clear it from the DIC display. If your

vehicle does not have the four DIC buttons, pressing

the trip odometer reset stem will acknowledge the

message and clear it from the DIC display."

Since mine was momentary and has not continued to occur maybe I'm OK. Should I call the dealer anyway? What do you guys think?

Just being extra cautious since they don't give these trucks away you know...still miss my pinky finger. :flag:

Well shoot, I'd best slow down if it aint safe to drive without it =).

Dealer most likely wouldn't be able to tell you anything, unless there's a service bulletin on it or something.
