DANA Files chapter 11 protection

Recommended Posts

Dana Corporation ones of the Industrys largest supplier of Vehicle frames, Axles, transmissions, Bearing and hub assembly filed for protection under chapter 11 thru the U.S. court today.

Dana in recent weeks missed on payment of over 21 million dollars in interest (interst ONLY) payments. Dana stock has dropped from around $ 17.00 in Jan 2006 to less than $ 3.00 this week.

I'm in shock! I have dealings with Dana Industrial companys and never saw this coming.

Who say's Import auto sales does not hurt Americans ? This is the "trickle down" effect. Less American made Auto sales, Less Manufacturing, Less out sourced parts needed. FEWER AMERICANS WORKING.

But layed off Auto Employes can get a job a Wally World that pays minimum wage with no benifits selling "made in China" goods....... Ah the American dream!

When is our Government going to put tariffs on the other countries like they do us? Pretty soon we will be the poorest country not the richest. We will all be working for Walmart wages.

I love my truck, but dammit the quality isn't there. My 2000 Silverado crackles like a styrofoam ice chest inside, the abs failed, my e-brake quit and the radio speakers blew out and the engine knocks. I love my Chevy but people buy the imports because they run very well. I am embarassed to take my Toyota Tundra owning friend in my Silv. I try to just park it next to his little twuck.

I hate it like hell that our companies are goiing broke but the answer is not to protect these jerks.

Ken shoot me if you want but you know I.m right.

No need to get upset at the imports, they are doing things right, its the idiots at General Morons, Ferd, and the Former Chrysler Corp who you should be mad at. They new it was comming but they were so high and mighty back then they didn't really care. Two thoughts: QUALITY CONTROL and SATISFIED WORKERS will lead a company to success. As for the Walmart crap, if you don't like it there, then don't shop there or work there, no one is making you go there or work there.

I am not upset over GM,Ford & DC they did it to them selfs back in the early 60's pure junk. But we have a trade deficit out of control and companies not related to the auto industry going bankrupt like NWA, Delta and of course Dana and many more. I havent seen this in my lifetime. But guess what its costing every single taxpayer in this country big time fore there losses. We the tax payers have to foot the bill. Until there is equality in trade between these countries we are losers.

I will bet your friends Toyota Tundra is many years newer too. And just what can he carry or tow a empty snowmobile trailer. Your truck is 6 years old and probably has 125000mi on it or close what do you expect.

I my self will never buy an foreign company owned vehicle.

Sad to hear about Dana. The "Who is to blame" game is a vicious cycle to get into, so therefore I won't. In the end, there are a LOT of folks to blame, but you can not brand someone a traitor because they choose to buy the best value for their hard earned dollar. Every brand has great ones AND lemons. To each his own too.

I love GM products and have had a bunch of them. I love my truck and it's quality, but if I had to base my buying decision on the quality of my wifes Impala, I would never buy another one again, period.

As for the Walmart mentality, I and my family quit shopping there some time ago. First, the whole deal about most of their stuff is from China, second, the treatment of employees and third, I just don't like the place. I prefer Target in general and a lot of other stores.

In the end, if you really think about it, cheap gas and Walmart (and like-type big gox stores) have ruined America. If gas were not so cheap for so long, we would not be driving 25-40 miles to shop at Walmart, we would shop in town, supporting our local businesses. In the end, more people would have those type of jobs, there would be more business owners and more money here in America.

Do you blame Walmart or Toyota/Honda or "Big Oil" for not gouging us soon enough, for the downfall of America??

No I don't blame any single company. The big whales are just "poster childern" for what went wrong in our country. If anyone is to blame it is ourself for we have allowed the "American Way of Life" be ruined by influences not only afar but right at our door . This did not happen overnite, but rather it has chipped a little at a time . We have let the $ ruin our thinking allowed big business to lay in bed with our government leaders. Getting rid of lobbist in our government would be a good start.

To many American Familys trying to make ends meet are forced to buy from the Big discount chain stores that have to make profits to keep shareholders happy by buying cheap import products from 3rd world countrys that enslave their workers paying them pennies on the dollar in comparrision to American companys.

Don't even get me started on Lawsuits and insurance companys.............

I agree withyou 110% and do equally. I blame alot on the people who go to big box stores an think there getting a deal but infact there hurting there own livelie hood.

As for your Impalla i dont know but i currently have (wifes) 04 Monti Carlo SS Supercharged and its every bit as good as any GM product i hve bought since 1997 and i am talking 01,02,03,& 04 Silverado,01 Corvette & 97 GTP Pontiac.

Quality has gotten much better and some of these vehicles never went to the service dept.

How ironic. I buy a Chevy truck made in Oshawa rather than a Toyota truck made in the U.S.A. I guess those American's in Freemont don't count in your redneck utopia...

Yes, how ironic indeed. You seem to think that toyota is MADE in the USA. But, it is obvious that you don't understand the difference between MADE and ASSEMBLED. The majority of the parts on that SO CALLED MADE in USA toy are not MADE in the USA. A few Americans working at a toy plant in Freemont doesn’t make up for the THOUSANDS of Americans that lose their jobs because the MAJORITY of the parts used to put those d@mn toys together are FORIGEN!!!! I only hope that you Elitists jerks, that don't see that buying auto's from foreign co.'s hurts ALL of US, get your comeuppances by losing your job to foreign out-sourcing. If it makes me a redneck to love this country and want to see it thriving and strong because of a healthy mfg. industry then I guess that's what I am. One day it will get you too you ELITIST JERK!!

Posted

Why does it bother you where it is made? Your TV wasn't made in the USA! Most componants of your computer were not made in the USA! Most parts for your wireless phone were not made in the USA either! Many of our trucks and cars are made in Canada and Mexico! WHO CARES WHERE IT IS MADE!!!! GET OVER IT!

Buying from an American "Brand" does NOT mean that most of or all of the components are made in America. You had better look very hard at the facts when talking about what companies build vehicles with "American made" components. I read in Consumer Reports about a year and a half ago an article about which vehicles had the most "American" in them. This was from engineering, design, parts built and assembly. The top two were the Camry and Accord!! The first "Amercian Brand" was in 5th place, being the Jeep Wrangler.

I buy what I CHOOSE to buy. While I have never owned a foreign brand car, nothing is to say that I won't. By buying an American brand vehicle, odds are you are helping the Canadian, Mexican, Chinese and Indian economies just as much if not more than the American economy.

I am as patriotic as the next person, probly more, but facts are facts. The profits from Toyota and Honda may go overseas, but they are putting and keeping American workers working, while the "American Brands" continue to oursource parts to Japan, China, India and assembly in Mexico to cheapen the product costs so they can pay the 3 retired workers they have for every 1 worker working today and attempt to be profitable!

Bingo

Just because it says Toyota doesn't mean it is an import. We need to look at the unions and the taxes levied on ALL businesses in this country. We in this country need to be calling and writing our Congress reps to pass H.R. 25 Fair Tax Bill.

It is easy to blame someone else than to look at ourselves in this case. :)
