Unbelieveable!

The past few days I had my calves at another local fair and a whole lot of crazy stuff went on.  The craziest thing was when our stock trailer got hit by a runaway tractor.  I got to the fair yesterday morning pretty early and got some stuff out of the trailer that I had parked in a trailer lot.  Sometime after that a tractor that had been used to level off the horse arena started up and drove straight as an arrow into the back of our trailer.  It dented in the back door pretty good, but still useable.  It also dug the jack into the ground so that the front of the trailer was resting on the ground and the hitch was about three inches above it.  I bet there was over two feet of jack in the ground since this is a gooseneck trailer.  I just couldn't believe it when a fair board member came and asked me to come with him, I knew something bad had happened, but I didn't know what.

The fair said it would pay for all the damages to the trailer, but they were all very minor, we may just use a sledge hammer and get the metal and posts straight since it has some age on it.  I did try to tell them the trailer was totaled and that they should buy me a new aluminum one, but they didn't fall for it.

Well, I think the title of this topic sums it up pretty well.   bigrot.gif     Its almost too bad it didn't total out your trailer though.....

Yikes!

Have you gotten it home yet? (or tried to)

It is still useable, the damage wasn't very severe so I was able to bring my calves home this afternoon.  The jack was my biggest concern, after seeing it buried I thought it would be snapped, but it works fine.  The only thing that needs to be fixed it the rear door, it won't latch quite right anymore.

Are you actually on or do you follow the professional circuit?

I'm just wondering because my wife's little sister is a pro barrel racer except for the fact that she's pregnant right now.

I don't really follow it but it has to mean something because before her "condition" she was ranked fairly high in the worldwide standings.

I show beef cattle at fairs most of the summer.  What I do is totally unrelated to rodeo.

Here in IL we don't have a points system for showing, where down in TX and OK they have a points system set up almost like NASCAR that is used to determine a state champion.  It takes into account the number of fairs shown at and how well each animal shown did.

So, the tractor just started up by itself!?

Chances are some idiot jumped off the tractor, leaving it running (in my book, a NO-NO), and knocked it into gear on the way off.  Saw what was happening and either took off or didn't fess up.

That's shi$$y!  My uncle had a mad bull run into his 96 Z71 in the driver's door.  It cost him a new door and driver's side rear extended cab panel.

BTW, what kind of gooseneck stock trailer do you have?

Did it mess up the jack?  At least it was just the rear door, you might be able to order one from the manufacturer pretty cheap and easy.

The jack was my biggest fear, but it worked enough to let me get it hitched to the truck down there.  I got it home today and used the loader tractor to lift up the front of the trailer to let me lower it all the way.  It seems to work just fine so we got lucky there.

Its a '93 Diamond D, which is what Featherlite bought a few years after we bought it.  It is the exact same as Featherlite's steel trailers that they sell now.  An aluminum would be real nice, but man are they expensive.  Ours is only an 18 footer, a 20 or 22 would be much nicer, but we get along.
