I was wondering if anyone out there has installed either a magnaflow, dynomax or flowmaster muffler using their stock pipes. I was hoping to save some money and just remove my existing muffler and replace it with one with more performance and also great sound. Any suggestions? How did you do yours? I'm thinking about keeping the stock exit location because I tow a lot. I thought about exiting in front of the rear tire as well. Any suggestions?

Here's My Truck

Thanks.

A friend at work put the 70 series Flowmaster on his '01 Stepside.  He had the muffler shop do the work for him.  They welded in a small piece of pipe to make up for the fact that the Flowmaster was a little shorter than the stock can.  It sounds nice outside the truck (not too loud), and the inside resonance is just higher than stock.  He's very happy!!!

That sounds like something to try, thanks. Anyone else done this? I think I want a little more sound, like a 40 or 50 series muffler.

I had a flow 40 and dual outlets bent for my Sierra, right around $260. Not sure how much you want to spend.

I don't think I would buy Dyno-max.  I have a couple on my S-10, they sound ok most of the time but sometimes they make a funny noise.  I guy at a muffler shop told me the ouside of the muffler can come loose and rattle against the inside, kind of an in and out flex, it sounds like a manifold leak to me but I had it checked out and no leak, they said it had to be the mufflers.  I was actually warned of this before I bought them but I just thought the guy was trying to get me to buy his mufflers instead of ordering the Dyno-max, I should have listened.  The noise didn't start for a long time - 2 or 3 years.

Try the Hooker Aero Chamber muffler. It flows really good and sounds strong but not loud. Cheap, too. See Summit's prices!

Lots of luck. :D
