What have you folks used to take off them decals.  I have decided I dont need a sticker to tell people my trucks a 4x4 and would like to lose said decal.  Any tips out there?

TIA

You will get alot of ideas from some of the guys here, my faviorite is to use Acetone, it works great and is fast and easy, or you can use a hair dryer and warm it up and pull it off, good luck.

Very easy for the decals.  If it's warm outside, park the truck so the decal is in the sun so it will be warmed up.  Then just use a fingernail to peel a corner up, then jsut peel it off.  If it's cold, use a hair dryer to warm it up, and then do the same as mentioned before.  After removing them, clean the area with some bug/tar remover, or WD-40, to remove any build-up or sticky stuff, if any is left.  (When I removed my factory Z71 decals, it left no sticky residue, but the emblems left a lot of that foam tape behind, that took a lot of rubbing with my finger tips to remove.)  Then wax the area.  That's all there is to it.  :D

If the decals have been on there for several years and there is a chance the paint has faded (like from being in the sun a lot), the paint under the decal may be a darker shade.  ???   Hopefully this is not the case for you.

Good luck.

Mine was built in May of 99, and I removed the decals earlier this year, and I didn't have any problems.  I did have an outline from wax buildup, but I got rid of that with some time and elbow grease.  The color looked just like the rest of the truck, and that's in the SC heat for around 3 summers.  If you do it, finish up one side completely, that way if you don't like it, you could buy a new factory decal to cover it back up, and you would only have to buy one.  ???

Good luck with it.

I used a hair dryer on the low heat setting and held it away from the truck and slowely worked it over the whole area to warm it up.  Once I started to peel up the decal, I kept working the leading edge in front of where I was pulling, and the decal came right off.  I too, could care less if people know i'm driving a 4x4.

I'll agree with everyone else here.  I took my Z-71 off last week.  A little heat from a hairdryer and it peeled right off.

Hmm, Tom you're tempting me to get the patriotic z71 decals like yours.  Got my 99 July 31st of 99, and it sits in the garage except when at work in the lot for 8hrs in Cleveland, OH, so not too much sun.  It is indigo blue, but not too much fade?  Hopefully not.  Will have to kick the idea around a little.

I doctored up 1 of my truck photos using your decal and lined it up.  Not too bad, friend didn't seem to think it'd look good, but I like it.  We'll see.

Had 'em.  Got rid of 'em.  Went to the local Chev dealer and purchased a Z71 emblem (found on the Z71 Tahoes) and slapped on the back tailgate next to the Silverado nameplate. Much better.  I think the sticker was $9.95.  I was going to place behind the 1500 on the door, until I looked at it backwards on the passenger side.  Uh... :baa:
