probably not technical, but why does the crew cab( 4 dr) only have three grab handle assists? i really could have used one yesterday, when somebody parked too close to the driver's door in a parking lot. i didnt want to hit either my door or the car next to me. in order to get in ,i had to snake around the door and had a hard time getting in . i noticed the nice grab handles on the pass. side and the two in the back. there isn't one on the driver's side. it would of made it much easier to enter the truck. i could of held the door with one hand and pulled myself up and in real easy. you cant hold the door and use the steering wheel as an assist. is there a logical reason why there is no assist handle for the driver? thx,jim....

I also noticed that. A handle there would have also come in handy while washing the roof of the truck. Must be some cruel sort of value engineering.

I'm not sure. Its probably some stupid regulation that has to do with keeping you hands on the steering wheel and not on the handle. :nono:

I'll bet it is a regulation of sorts as well. No way of knowing.

Of course, my major design gripe is that left leg, shin-bustin' emergency brake pedal that sticks so far out on the left side of your leg. If you ever get a side-wreck on the driver's side door, that pedal is going to put a nasty bruise / cut on your leg. Through the past ten years or so, which is about how long this pedal design has existed (if not longer), I have known three friends who have had had collisions on the driver's side, and all had left leg damage (scrape or cut).

The only car that I have ever owned that has four assist handles (including one for the driver) is my 83 Mercedes 300SD.

Personally, I rather not have an assist handle than have one staring me in the face on the windshield pillar (see Ford and Dodge), but you are right - a roof mounted asist handle for the driver would be nice, especially for the 4X4 models, which sit higher off the ground. Grabbing the steering wheel to get in does not look like the best idea. Maybe installing nerf bars helps a little in this area.
