Where was it made?

I've seen people on this forum talking about the difference between the Silverados made in Mexico vs. Canada. My Silverado has a sticker in the driver's side door in the shape of Indiana that says "Made with pride in the Chevrolet Bus and Truck plant", or something like that.

So this is a dumb question I know, but this means my pickup was made in the US, right? Not Mexico or Canada?

Probally means it was made in the Janesville Plant. That is where my 1993 Stepside was made. That is one of the GM Truck and Bus Groups. My 2005 1500HD was made in with pride by the folks in Flint ,Michigan at least that is what is says on the door jam.

If it has a sticker in the shape of Indiana it was built in Fort Wayne IN.

If the sticker is the shape of Indiana it is made in Fort Wayne. Janesville now builds the Tahoe & Suburban.

My 2002 YukonXL was made in the US.

Of course, it would be fine with me if it were made in Canada (of course, my opinion is biased). :banghead:

Better paint jobs out of Mexico due to no paint booth emission requirements The truck plant in Canada has one of the highest quality ratings of all the GM plants.

I believe there are 5 plants currently making PU's

Since all paint on GM vehicles is the same it does not make a difference where it made. The MFR's do not have different standards for their product assembled in Canada or Mexico. Its the wage savings that make a difference.

Interesting. I have a 94' built in Fort wayne, but paulie's 93' was build in Janesville. We're they produced in both places depending on options, or was 94' the year of the switch? I saw an 04' a while back that I beileve had the same Fort Wayne sticker I do.

WRONG. Paint porcess is different from plant to plant. I worked in the paint industry for the big 3 and there are significant differences in paint processes from each of the assembly plants. Paint suppliers are not always the same either (GM primarily uses about 80% dupont and about 20% PPG and once in awhile you see BASF.

Some use an indexing paint booth and some use continuous paints boths some use powder primer some use solvent borne primer. Some paint lines are 30 years old and some are state of the art and brand new. Don't forget about cure ovens and there impact on proper curing They all differ from plant to plant.

Keep in mind that the paint process is the MOST expensive process in the plant and (due to energy consumption and process control and also real estate taken in the palnt) Also it is about 500,000 $$ per foot of spray booth/oven for a new booth. Extreme investment is equipment to say the least.

Some use water borne paint some use solvent borne paint.

The difference between Mexico and the USA is that they do not have emissions standards in Mexico so they can use the highest solids solvent borne paint system that provides the best most durable finish.

So your statement that all GM paint is the same is not correct.

I dont know if or when you were in any of the GM plants but they went to a comon system in all plants in the late 90's to cut costs and be able to switch product any where they wanted to. This also improved quality since engineering didnt have as many problems as they would with say 4 or 5 different systems.
