AC Compressor belt

Anyone had one of these break on the new body style trucks?  Mine did on the way to Myrtle Beach last night.  ???   Luckily it didn't knock the main drive belt off in the process.  It broke in a straight line right across the belt.  The rest of it still looked to be in good shape.  There was a few cracks in the ribs here and there, but nothing that seemed too bad to me.

Oh well, I'm going to rplace them both today or tomorrow.

Were you running the ac?  Was it pretty noticable when it broke?

Yes, the AC was on.  The only noticable difference was the air coming out of the vents got warm pretty quick.  No noise from under teh hood, that I could hear.  At first I though a fuse may have blown.  Checked all the AC related ones, and they were all good.  Then looked under the hood, and seen the belt broken.  It was still laying in the area of the AC Compressor.

Advance Auto Parts has the Main drive belt for $18.00 and the AC belt for $9.00.

Ok dumb question.

The AC Belt wont wear if you dont use ac much at all will it?  I rarely run the AC in my truck.  Only when i am on the highway and traveling will i run ac.  Around city windows are down.

Unrelated, but I live in Houston,TX and my uncle lives in Nichols, SC.  I come to visit him to hunt in Nichols twice a year (spring turkey, fall deer)!  I fly into Florence airport.  I had no idea anyone was from that area! :)

Cool!

Where were you when it broke?  If you are near Florence, don't hesitate to call.

Thanks.  I was around Lake City.  It was no big deal, the weather was slightly cool, so we just turned had outside air blowing in the vents.  Once we dropped Tammy off at the airport, me and my son had the windows down on the way back.  (You know how women can be about their hair and wind.   :) )

I didn't get the belts at Advance Auto Parts because they seemed kinda cheap.  They looked like you could tear them by hand.  I guess that's why they didn't cost much.     I bought some at Car Quest, made by Gates, that were $36.09 for the main, and $12.48 for the AC Compressor.  The dealer wanted $47.25 and $19.15 for them.  :bored:

Kaspar,

cool!  look me up, or let me know when you are comming.  My father-in-law loses about $80k a year from his crops due to deer.  I am sure you could hunt it if you would like.  It is so bad out here, I killed  a 6 point with a .357 pistol (2 1/2" barrell) last year.  I was about 200 yds from the house!!!

My A/C belt broke Monday afternoon.  Same situation, on the way home from work with the a/c on and the a/c just quit cooling.  It broke strait across.  No other visible wear on the belt.  I had them both replaced at my dealer because I didn't have time to deal with it.  My truck has 108,000 miles on it but in my experience belts usually give a little visual warning before they break.

Mark, that is sweet!  Must of been one #### of a shot with a pistol!  I am a decent shot with a rifle, but with a pisol, truth be told, I suck ;)

Tom, I think you'll be happy with the Gates belts.  They make some good quality stuff.  You'll be much better off and have a better piece of mind running a better belt.
