advance folding hard cover

I just got an Advance hard folding cover for my truck (very similar to fold-a-cover). I want to install it but I cannot decide whether it is better to remove the factory installed bed rail caps. These come factory installed only on crew cab 1500 Silverado pickups for some reason. The cover requires mounting of two self-adhesive flat mouldings on the bed rails, along with two softer weather seals. It is possible to attach these to the plastic caps, but the surface is grainy and I do not know if they will adhere properly (3 M tape). These mouldings are crucial to successful cover installations as the cover sits on top of these.

Removing the caps would mean much better adhesion of the mouldings to the painted truck bed rails. Has anybody successfully mounted a similar cover on top of these plastic rail caps?

Nobody? I know that a bunch of people here have a fold-a-cover, which is pretty much the same thing. So, what is the best way to mount it? On top of plastic bed rail covers, or remove the covers first and mount the self-adhesive flat seals diretly on the metal bed rail? Would the cover be raised enough not to interfere with the factory tailgate finned guard?

Remove the plastic caps first - they'll sctratch the heck out of the top of your bed over time.

Just like a plastic bedliner would? did you find the hard way? These caps actually have plastic mounting clips built into them and fit into holes in the bed rail. On other turcks, these do not come from the factory and are sold as accessories by GM dealers. But they mount with 3M tape instead of plastic tabs.
