New York Staters with a tuned PCM:

I got my PCM re-tuned last August (mailed my original one in and got it back from Wait4me performance) and my state inspection is up next month,

Do I have to worry about anything or just take it in as usual?

Last year i just took it to my dealer, but i could go to any shop. ('04 ECSB 4.8 )

I guess it depends more on where you live, if your in the city or the countys around it, they used to to stick the tailpipe (Those were the striped stickers) Every where else, also long as your MIL status is ready and have no active codes with clean driving cycles, you will pass.

I.E. you clear the your check engine light say for a EGR fault when your coasting, then drop your car off.. That has to pass at last 3 driving cycles before if will set the MIL back to ready.

The days of the drive by inspections are gone... they have to hook you up and read the VIN from the PCM, I would suspect they are pulling the vehicle mileage as well and keep track to look for odometer fraud too, they started writing the mileage on the stickers like 4 or 5 years ago too. (thats prob. why you have to record your inspection sticker # when you renew the reg too)

Go early... just in case...

YEOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had my truck inspected today and it passed. They did the sniffer

too. I completely forgot about my Hypertech 3 being loaded into

it and didn't remove it before the test.

It passed anyhoo and thats GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GUYS........My bud at the shop told me that ALL trucks over

a certain GVW are emission test exempt in NY.

That means if you have a 3/4 (9200gvw?) ton your safe !!!

Any Gas powered vehicle, with a GVW of 8501 pounds, or less and built after 1996 has to have the OBDii part of the inspection.

The $21 dollar inspection is the saftey inspection, ya know.. tires, pull one wheel, tie rods, parking brake, horn, wipers. Et. al.

Plus... the gas cap check, gotta have that teather on there!!

Plus... it gets hooked to PC, and on the spot the VIN and if the MIL is ready is sent to Albany.

The $37 dollar inspection, gets all that PLUS the sniffer, in the city, and the surrounding areas.

SJS...............He also mentioned if you let your inspection

expire "big brother" NY automatically send you a ticket !!!!

TRUE also?

sonjaab, Not true about sending ya the ticket, cuz last year my was up in May, one thing led to another, Memorial Day weekend came, had all good intentions on going to get it inspected but didn't make it till first week in June, i didn''t get a tic.

And we got the $21 inspection here, just took the car in last weekend.

DRIFT.......My bud sez NY has "fine tuned" the NEW inspection

and smog process since they started the statewide? smog

check along with the good old inspection last year.

Now they send ya a ticket????????????????

I can see the safety inspection tho...........After they discontinued

it in Fla. in the 80s there sure was some rolling scrap piles

after running around after the 1st year!

Sonjaab, I don't know if Albany is sending you a "reminder", but i would'nt be the least bit suprised. This years inspection fun is they have broken the month into thirds, becasue the shops were whining that everyone was bringing the car in on the last 2 days of the month. Inspections are getting to be a Royal PITA though.

I have a car (94, so it's emissions exempt baby!!), My truck, a motorcycle and a trailer.

I'm on a first name basis with my inspector.

The month break up I believe has been dropped... the stickers have them, but they do not use them... that what I have heard... will have to see when I get mine inspected in October.

Interesting that the 3/4 ton truck are exempt from the emissions test.... good information to know.
