Rough Start with Smoke

Drove my truck about 70 miles Friday late afternoon after which the truck sat until Sunday afternoon.  Started it up Sunday and the truck was running rough and white smoke was coming out of the exhaust for about 10 seconds.  It smoothed out and I drove it around the block with no problems.  This morning (Monday) it started up fine with no smoke or roughness.

 

It is a '97 Chevy Extended Cab with the 305 V-8, 95,000 miles, automatic, all stock.  Haven't had any engine related problems with the truck and it doesn't burn any oil.

 

Any ideas on what the problem is?  Fixes?

If it only does it after sitting for a long time, I'd guess maybe some condesation in the cylinders? Was it real humid? How hot was the truck when you shut it down?

If it does it every time it sits after a hot, hard run, maybe a head gasket is giving you a little warning that it's about to go. Are you sure that there was no oil smoke(blue)? Maybe the valve seals are getting worn.

Thanks for the reply.  That is the first time I have ever had it happen.  Anyway, yes it was pretty humid this past weekend.  I rained on and off and just made things worse (it was raining while I drove it Friday).  When I shut it down the engine was about 200 degrees where it normally runs.  And yes, I am pretty sure that it was just white smoke and not blue.  It didn't smell like burning oil either.

 

I drive it back and forth to work every day.  It takes about 35 minutes to get there about 20 miles away.  Once it gets to work or home, whichever way I am going, it just sits there.  I haven't had any problems at either place besides this one time.

 

Anyway, thanks for the suggestions.  I will keep my eye on it for awhile and see.
