mounting american flag in bed

First thing I can think of, which shouldn't cause any damage.....

Maybe rig something up with a 2x4 about 8in. long with a hole drilled thru about 2in. from one end, big enough for whatever flagpole you are using, then screw or bolt it to one of those bed stake pocket tie downs which~a~ma~callit's. (The kind with the rubber piece that expands as it's tightened, holding it in the pocket)

You'll probably have to also drill a hole for the tie down eye bolt to fit thru the 2x4 so you can tighten it.

One thing ya might want to do is drill the hole at a slight angle so the flagpole is leaning back a bit. And use a bungee cord or something to keep the pole steady.

A tennis ball on the end of the pole will protect the bed,

Did I confuse ya ???

what do you mean mount an american flag in ur bed? on a pole? hanging?

before you do anything tho, look up the Flag Code of Ethics and make sure you will not disrepect the flag in anyway...it would be pointless to look patriotic if you are breaking some part of the flag code.

I got this online from the U.S. Code Collection, TITLE 4 > CHAPTER 1 > § 7.

Position and manner of display.........

The flag should not be draped over the hood, top, sides, or back of a vehicle or of a railroad train or a boat. When the flag is displayed on a motorcar, the staff shall be fixed firmly to the chassis or clamped to the right fender.

I see nothing wrong with attaching it (similarly to what I described above) to the right rear fender, as it doesn't specify front or rear.

Even if at the front of and inside the bed, it would still be attached to the fender.

To be more 'in code', ya could do the above AND remove one of the bed bolts, get a longer one, mount it through a 2x4 with a hole for the flagpole, and glue the pole to the 2x4.

That way it's firmly attached to the chassis.

If ya want to get so technical, I'd like to see ya question the thousands of people out there with those side window mounted flags. By the letter of the code, they are unacceptable,(and most people seem to have them on the left of a vehicle) but I've even seen cops personal vehicles with them. And atleast 2 of those cops were ex-military.

Fly the Flag any way ya choose, just don't disrespect it in doing so !!!

And if it starts getting tattered, replace it. Don't let half of it get shredded off before you replace it.

We have a flag code on how to properly attach it to a vehicle? :uhoh:

...every red blooded american would stick that thing wherever they can mount it and fly it til it is shredded to tatters. (Think, RED NECK, its a good way to be) :smash:

For the love of god, please make sure its mounted securely. If that thing falls off goin down the freeway.... well i know what i would do to someone if i saw that.

I would make a mount out of some tube and plate steel and bolt it to the fender (inside the bed) and put a bolt through the tube and flag to ensure it doesnt come out. :uhoh:

I know you dont want to drill, but.. come on. thats pretty much the only way its gunna look good and be strong enough.

I may be wrong but I learned that the front is the "fender" and the back is the "quarter panel"

is that right?

Hyper, I don't think being technical regarding the American Flag is wrong. The basis of having regulations displaying the flag shows the respect it deserves and the people who have died defending it. Please do not feel I am standing on a soap box, but regarding the American Flag it represents something a lot bigger than my ego. Take care.

I agree Jake, and yes the American Flag represents something a lot bigger than anybodies ego, but how many flags have you seen on those little white poles that hang on vehicle windows? I've seen more than I could keep count of.

For events like parades and such, I could see reasons for following the regulations, as well as ANY military/gov use, but for the average joe, as long as he's flying the flag, in a respectful manor, it shows support for those who put everything else behind them in defending it.

Being a redneck has nothing to do with it, the only time our Flag is permitted to be tattered is during a military campaign. Think Yankee Doodle. If it is tattered YOU ARE BEING DISRESPECTFUL.

From the Flag Code:

"(k) The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning."
