Pulling truck in reverse in park

I was trying to pull the "stinger"? that has been corroded in the hitch of my 97 K1500 truck with my other 97 K1500 truck. I had my daughter in the truck and asked her to put it in neutral and step on the brakes while I had the other truck in 4-Lo and tried to pull it out. All it did was pull my daughters truck across the driveway. That thing is in there solid, and I even have been soaking it with PB Blaster (and yes the pin is removed). When I was done, I noticed that my daughter had left it in PARK while she stepped on the brakes. It seems okay, but could this have damaged anything?

Not sure but in the owners manual in my dads Ford F550 wrecker which is an automatic, it says while winching to put the ebrake I believe to prevent breaking the parking paw? If you do end up removing it, I put liquid graphite on my hitch receiver and allow it to dry a minimum of 1 hour. It will slide in very nicely and you are able to take it in and out as needed. Hope this helps...somewhat at least

You may end up taking a sledge hammer to this thing to remove it. I've had to do that before. Either that or take a torch to the reciever and heat it so it will expand (not til it turns red, just warm it up a bit).

I wouldn't rely on the emergency brake to save the parking pawl. Putting it in neutral would have been best... If you didn't hear the pawl racheting or if it doesn't hold the truck in "Park" anymore then I would worry. If it still holds the chances are the brakes held and no damage was done. As for getting it out try chaining it to a tree and putting a VERY heavy object over the chain, to avoid violent recoil, and jerk it pretty good (Don't jerk it too hard though don't want to tear anything up on the truck, or have the air bag explode in your face, which I'll probably do one day cuz I get over zealous on things like that...) Try pounding on the hitch near the ball (not on it, but near the very end for maximum leverage) with a sledge it might "break" it loose.

Thanks guys. I hit it inwards with my 4# sledge and it went in about 1/4". I think that may have broken it loose. The parking brake still works fine, and I drove the truck and it seems ok. I'll try it again this evening. I hope I get it out, i'm tired of dodging it in the driveway with my knee.

Ahhh The power of the almighty Sledge hammer. If it doesn't fix it just keep hitting it with a heavier sledge.... Just remember when I nod my head you hid it...

Hope you get the unit out....
