Want to replace Factory radio......

Having never owned a Chevy truck before I thought it would be easy to install my after market radio in the truck just like any previous car I've had. I WAS WRONG. To my surprise when I went to buy the harness, antenna adaptor and install kit I was told that new Silverado's needed a digital harness so that factory accessories would not fail. I was then told the part was $100 retail (which I found for around $80 online). So I'm wondering why this is the case, what a work around is if there is one, a cheaper option, or if I'd be better getting a better factory radio instead. I'm driving the Silverado Ext WT...meaning no cd player.

Thanks for any and all help anyone can provide.

I'm sorry to say that is true. GM uses a Data Bus system, and without the adapter you loose your warning chimes and stuff. You can use a cheap harness (like any other make and the older ones use), but like I said you loose the chimes and stuff.

If you buy a HU from crutchfield, they sell you the harness for $40. or try wal-mart, Mine was $50 from them.
