Dex-cool at 50k.

Just changed out the Dex-cool anti-freeze at 50k this past weekend. I know it was designed to last longer but for less than $20 it's an easy job. I was pleasantly surprised how clean the old stuff was. It really looked brand new with no trace of any deposits. I was putting it in a white 5 gal bucket and it looked so clear. I have done this job on countless cars and have never seen anti-freeze look this good coming out. I'm not saying that it would have performed as well even thought it "looked good". This stuff does break down over time and looks are not an indicator. I know this stuff gets a bad rap but I believe that is because the earlier vehicles that it came in didn't have compatible gaskets, air getting into the system among other things.

One other thing. Forget the fill to level on the overflow bottle. Top it off and let it puke out what it doesn't need. This will only happen the first time (if you don't have any other leaks). You don't want any air to get into the system. So keep it topped off.

Other than a few S-model 4.3-V6's (Which there is a bulletin on. And we saw only a few) we've seen no problems here at our dealership with the Dex-Cool.

I'd say it holds up very well.
