poorboy Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 Passenge side mirror glass broken...what's the best, cheapest way to fix this... Do I have to replace the entire mirror or just the lens? Anybody price the mirror lens from the dealer?
burgundyz71 Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 I had mine in for warranty work when the passenger side mirror heating element quit and they replaced the lens only but I don't know how much the lens was.
DEV1ST8R Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 I cracked my d/s mirror about a year ago. The best option. . .if it's not heated or the signal mirror, is to get just the replacement mirror glass. I just scraped all the broken glass out, cleaned it up a bit with alcohol/gas, then stuck the new pre-cut mirror into the holder with a strong, weatherproof epoxy. You don't even have to remove the holder from the mirror assembly, but I did to get all the little pieces out easier. You can't even notice it's been replaced. I bought mine on eBay for about $20.00. Worked perfect.
poorboy Posted June 12, 2006 Author Posted June 12, 2006 Well, the plastic backing is also broken. It snapped all the little clips off the part that the mirror sticks to. The "jug" is ok.
Bish Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 Well, the plastic backing is also broken. It snapped all the little clips off the part that the mirror sticks to. The "jug" is ok. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think mine was around $50 for the glass at a dealer. Pretty simple to replace IMO. Once the old is off, the new one plugs in (defrost) then push the glass on.
larry arizona Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 If you can find a used glass only they pop right out. I replaced my wife's passenger heated glass. Just pull the top of the glass with a quick tug and they pop right out of the center retainer ring. The new one pops right in and if heated or turn signal has a small plug.
sonjaab Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 The heated replacement glass is $30 plus shipping from GM parts direct. Instructions and pics on how to do it: http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=175712
fossil Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Here's a source for replacement parts and upgrading to signals in the mirror as well as full glass replacement instructions. Not difficult at all. http://www.kwmuth.com/products/kits/220-0250.htm
