New Zoomer's exhaust is on!!!!

Just a quick post to let everyone know that if they are considering a new cat back system - they ought to look at the zoomer's system!

The system showed up on my door step yesterday and just opening the box, I was impressed! All the components were individually wrapped in bubble wrap and were well protected. The system came with well illustrated instructions and ALL of the parts needed for installation. After removing my old system - installation took approximately 20 minutes and the fit and finish is great! The system utilizes all of the same factory rubber mounts, in conjunction with a new stainless flex coupling in the front, just like the factory system.

In addition to the greatly improved flow, the new system is also a LOT lighter! I weighted both systems on a bathroom style scale and the new system is 51 pounds lighter!!!!

The exhaust note is very rich sounding. It doesn't have a pop type note - more of a deep rumble type note which I think sounds down right sweet!

And just as important, there is NO drone, resonance, etc at ANY speed or throttle position whether it is in V-4 or V-8 which was one of the reasons I chose this system.

On the performance side, the Tahoe's computer is still learning what to do with the change in back pressure as I have only put about 30 miles on it with the new system installed - but on the 8 mile stretch on the expressway last night, with the cruise set at 70, it definitely was staying in V-4 more.

I will be taking it on another 700 mile road trip next weekend, so I will be able to get a good feel for any gains in then.

I'll try to get a wav file of the system along with a couple shots of it installed posted this weekend.

1. Do you have an aftermarket intake system such as Airraid or K&N?

2. How is the fuel milage with the displacement on demand?

jwalker - to answer your questions...

1) - No I don't have an aftermarket intake system - at least as of yet. I wanted to do a single upgrade at a time and considering that the factory exhaust on my DOD equipt Tahoe gave basically no exhaust note under acceleration/cruise (you hear a LOT more noise coming from the intake side of things) and you could actually hear a bit of a whooshing sound under the right conditions - I figured that it was most likely the most restrictive part of the equation and that I would start there.

2) - Fuel milage is still less than what I expected on the highway. Around town I am getting approximately 14.5 and highway I am getting 17.8 mpg. That is with the AC on, not "driving for milage" and on the highway - that is with the cruise set at 74 mph. One of the things that I think may be hurting my highway is the fact that I have the 4x4 package with 4.10's. To help put all of this in perspective though, I was getting 12 city and 16.5 highway under the same conditions with a '02 with 3.73's.

At this point, I feel the V-4 isn't kicking in quite as much as it could - but the new exhaust seems to have helped that, as it is spending more time in V-4 mode. I've only got 40 miles of in town driving on this tank, so I don't want to pass judgement yet, but according to the DIC I am showing 15.3 right now - which is a notable improvement! (Time will tell though)

The number that I am most interested in though will be the highway number from this upcoming weekend's trip. This will really help tell the story, as I made this same trip last weekend with the factory exhaust and unless it ends up raining - the conditions should be fairly similar.

Hope that helps! :P

Cut back on your 74 MPH speed and see if the V4 mode kicks in more and mileage goes up. There's a butt load of wind resitance at those speeds, I doubt the V-4 mode can produce enough HP to maintain that speed.

I didn't think you can get 2007s yet.  When did they start selling?

He's talking about an 07 Tahoe they've been out several months now. We have available cat-backs for the GMT900 platform as well as your 06 Silverado. The Cat Back for you Silverado is on Sale for $499.00 plus shipping. Check us out. www.zoomersexhaust.com

With that bad a mileage i guess i will stick with my 04 i average 20.3 mpg

Redvett -

Not sure if you are driving the same types of speeds or not - but you definitely can't complain at 20.3! I expect the milage to come up on the Tahoe as things continue to wear in (it has 2300 miles on it right now) - but I think I am going to be hard pressed to see an average of 20.3 (at the speeds I referenced above) without getting a tune for it - which is something I am planning on after I get a few more miles on her. :seeya:

I plan on experimenting with different speeds on the trip this weekend, but you are DEFINITELY correct about the heavy wind resistance associated with driving faster! The programming for the V-4 seems to be geared toward being set up to hold speed/rpm only and any additional load (light incline .5 degree, etc) seems to kick it back to V-8. I notice this even driving at in town speeds of 35 and 45 mph. I'm not sure if this is to keep that seemless feeling that the system currently has, or if it is to minimize vibration issues or? Similarly, it seems strange that it would revert to V-8 for idling at traffic lights, etc - again unless it is for vibration issues?

I'm planning on getting a tune for this engine after I get a few more miles on it and plan to talk to the tuner to see what can be done to get a bit more aggressive with the V-4 operational parameters. :seeya:

Have you found anyone who's got a tuner/programer for the 07? All the ones I've seen are up to 06 and NO AFM/DOD.

I "heard" that Westers is/will be offering a tune for the 07, but yeah, at this point, I haven't seen anything from HyperTech, etc in the way of hand held programers that are compatable with the DOD or multi-fuel set up... :seeya:

Made the road trip this weekend and the Tahoe is DEFINITELY liking the new exhaust! Prior to making my trip, I filled up and checked my around town milage. It jumped from a pre-Zoomer's install of 14.5 to 16.1. The highway numbers increased from 17.8 to 18.9 and I think if there handn't of been a notable head wind for on portion of the run, I would have had no issue being mid 19's!

Definitely happy with the pick up in performance and even more so with the pick up in milage! :)

That's great Todd as the truck breaks in the milage and performance can only get better.
