Reverse Problem

It only happens in reverse, start backing up and it sounds and feels like I just backed into something. Then it acts like it is in the lowest gear possible and struggles to keep going. As soon as you put it in D all is fine and no problems. Doesn't happen all the time and the dealer can't seem to get it to do it for them when they have it. Any suggestions for me. Thanks in advance. Darren

I'm confused. If your truck's acting like you backed in to something means to me that it suddenly feels like it encountered resistance and maybe the transmission binds up.

But then you say it acts like it's in what sounds like creeper gear, which is the opposite (in my book). So I'm inclined to believe you meant to say it feels like it's in a "high" gear with very little umph no matter how much throttle you give it.

If that's the case, your trans is probably engaging both a forward and a reverse clutch at the same time, and that's what's binding up. It will wear out the clutch for reverse or first quick enough, probably reverse will go first, in a week or two. Then you'll need a trans rebuild.

Not sure how to explain it. It seems to happen after I have pulled our camper and then it does it a lot. It feels like I hit something after backing up a few feet and then it just grinds to continue going in reverse. Put it in drive and it is like nothing is wrong.

The dealer just keeps telling me that they can't seem to get it to do it when they have it. Was hoping someone else might have had this problem for me to tell them how to fix it.

Holy crap!!!!!!!!!! someone else with the same issue. I was thinking I was crazy when it would do it. Mine has done it maybe 2 or 3 times recently. Its just how you say, put it in drive, then back to reverse, then its fine. Mine did it also after towing the trailer for a few hours. Mine is an '01, so its not only the newest ones doing it. If anyone knows the fix, please post it here.
