Acronym RANT!!!

O.K., so working in the aeronautics industry I deal with a lot of acronyms, I mean A LOT! But at least the text spells out the acronym the first time so the reader knows what the h3ll the writer is trying to say.

I'm not talking about the simple stuff that deals with our unified topic (Chevy Trucks), like CC/SB. I'm talking about stuff like NAPA. Hey, you say NAPA and I'm thinking auto parts, not a Network Application Performance Analysis or North American Partners in Anesthesia.

So, if you guys and gals would be so kind as to spell out what you mean first and then repeat the acro throughout your post, I may just be able to hold on to the sliver of sanity that I have.

EXAMPLE: Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE)

BSE is also known as "Mad Cow Desease" or to the layman, PMS.

That is all.... :seeya:

Ummm...Wouldn't that totally negate the point of using acronyms in the first place?

This makes a lot of sense to me. It is common in the buisness world and it's done for a reason.

Its pretty standard to use the words the first time, then use an acronym throughout the rest of a letter, or post, or whatever you're writing. That way no matter who is reading it they know what you're talking about.

Yeah...I have to do some documentation from time to time...I have to retype that crap because I forget that not everybody knows what NAMBLA WIN2K stands for.

A ha! So now we know that Wingnut looks like Marlon Brando, since he's obviously in the loop with The North American Marlon Brando Look Alike (NAMBLA) foundation.

You can click on my name and see what I look like...I only wish I looked like Brando (at my age, not later).
