GM sales down

Because of dismal GM sales last month, there should be a lot of bargains available on new GM cars and trucks this summer.

Yep, and sadly there should be a lot of bargins on the new '08 Silverado when they come out too  Some of the things GM does almost seems like they are trying to hurt sales - or atleast are behind the curve on design to market. I almost think they are taking for granted that the loyal GM customers will always be there and are reaching out to the other brand owners a little too much. Whatever customer surveys they did on the new Silverado could not have come from current owners or the reactions to the pics in the Spy thread would be much different.

But you are right, there should be some good deals out there. I wonder if the 0% will get extended past the 72-hour run - or has it already past?

Everyone......OK, some folks........maybe waiting for 0% for 72 months......or "employee" pricing......or whatever.

Why buy.....RETAIL?

Or.....IF YOU'RE LIKE ME.......I CAN'T AFFORD A NEW TRUCK.

With the 0% financing, I bet that helped some sales, because we got a new truck also. Got a decent trade and they gave me their best price, without the rebates of course and it was only $70 more a month.

At age 41, I have bought my fair share of vehicles (Including 4 chevy trucks). I have learned thru experience, in my particular situation, unless I win the powerball that I will always buy a few years used. If you do research, and try before you buy, you can come up with some truely great trucks. Especially with the great interest rates, there are a lot of recently traded in vehicles to choose from. I knopw, you may be inheriting someones problems, but if you can buy a great truck a few years old with average miles on it, why would you pay 2 or 3 times what a new one would cost you? I think most people on this board are mechanically inclined, and can do most minor fixes ie, shocks, plugs, filters, steering shafts etc. Just my 2 cents.

I looked into this last summer when I purchased my 05 Z71. Because I was able to get almost $8000 off retail between employee pricing, cash incentives, etc. I was hard pressed to buy used, which might have saved me $0-2000 depending on the vehicle for something low miles and two years old. I had never bought new before and continue to promis myself that I will only buy new when the financial incentive is there to do so.

Keep in mind that sales for most of the other automakers were down as well

True, but not nearly as bad. Ford was off by aobut 7%, chrysler about 15%.

Does GMAC lower its requirements for 0% when they are in needs of sales?

It's very possible. I assume you mean not so perfect credit score.

I know what you mean. I just bought a 04 gmc sierra SLE 2wd r/c stepside with the 5.3. Its loaded pretty good and it probably listed close to 30k. I bought the truck a month ago with 48k miles for 15k. I don't mind the mileage at all. The truck was well taken car of, and was completely stock. It looked like it had never seen any work at all. Now after I finish college and get a good paying job then I might look into getting a brand new truck or suv, but then again it seems kinda a waste of money. My dad recently bought an 05 Chevy z-71 tahoe. Fully loaded, onstar, moonroof, leather, etc. It had only 1,200 miles and still had the new car smell. The tahoe listed for around 45-50k new and he got it for 32k. It was the car of a dealership owner that didn't drive it much. Well, thats my 2 cents. -Tyler

As I understand it, 0% is actually kind of hard to get...It's just bait to get people in there.

There ya go. Thats the real thing. 0% is out of reach for 80% of potential buyers. In other words....perfect credit.

GM should fire their design team and then bring prices down. I dont mean down 500 bucks either. If GM put their prices 5000 dollars lower on the entire lineup, not only would they have record sales, but they would outsell everyone else AND would not be losing money due to increased sales.

But im sure thats going to happen.

Wasn't that part of the reason for establishing the "American Revolution"? I thought GM had lowered it's sticker price and threw large rebates out the window in an attempt to persuade consumers GM was a changed company. Apparently that didn't work after trying a month or two, so it's back to old reliable: killer rebates and highly inflated MSRP's. Why doesn't GM take a note from Toyota and Honda, companies that actually turn a profit per car, and set MSRP close to invoice and offer $1000-1500 rebates and cut the sales gimmicks.
