Check the RPO codes that's located on the sticker in your glovebox.

GT4=3.73 gears

GT5=4.10 gears You probably have the 3.73's

And if that's not what you meant, it's a 10-bolt with an 8.5 inch ring gear.

Actually the '99 up Silverado / Sierra has a 8.6" gear. Not sure that makes much difference.

Since it's a 4.8, it's more likely one of these two:

 

GU4 3.08:1 Rear Axle Ratio

GU6 3.42:1 Rear Axle Ratio
