97' K1500 mileage

There's a 1997 K1500 5.7 Silverado Z71 i'm looking at, and it has 129K miles on it. Asking price is $8900, but I'm sure I can get lower than that. I'm wanting to trade my car for it, only if the trade is even though. My car has 95K on the clock and is worth about $1400 more than the truck by blue book value. Do you think that would be a good deal? I know these engine's can take it, my grandpa's 95' K1500 has 129K on it and runs like its new. Body looks to be in good condition, no rust, only a couple paint chips on it. I know these trucks sell high on the market, and that I would be better off to sell my car probably, but if an even trade is possible, would it be a smart choice?

That is overpriced for that truck. I have a '96 that has turned to complete sh*t after I crossed over 130k and my interior has been falling apart for the last 3 years. It's taken me 7 months to put the last 5k miles on the truck because it's always broken. I currently have a rough idle, and a misfire that cannot be located. I do have new valve seals, transmission and a rebuilt t-case.

The only oddity in all of this is that I'm currently getting the best avg gas mileage ever in the 8 years and 115k miles I've owned the truck.

Sounds a bit overpriced to me also. Check the person to person value on the truck thru Kelly Blue Book, not trade or dealer pricing. I'm sure it will be lower.

My truck is a 98 GMC Sierra SLE extended cab and 8' bed. It has power everything, 5.7L, and 116K on it. I bought it from a dealer for $5000 two months ago. I know I got a good deal, but my KBB was around $8400. That's still less than your value and your truck is a year older with more mileage. I don't know what you have for options.

Hope this helps.

It also makes a difference on where you live. In my area, a Z71 with 200k will still for $8000. In good condition upwards of $9000.

I hear ya! I went on E-Bay and found a lot of trucks with 2 wheel drive for reasonable cash. Thats cause the were from Texas! I'm from Mass where 4 wheel commands a lot of dough! I don't know where your from but the KBB is still lower. And I believe with gas prices today, that is still a high tag! In that year range, the Z71 package is insignificant in price range.

I agree it depends on options and location, but if I can snag a loaded extended cab 4x4 for 5k in an area that commands high prices, I think you need to shop a little more. Then again, if this truck is really what you want, go for it. Only you know what you want.

Good luck!

Actually Z71, 4x4, FX4 pickups are everywhere down here. I think the problem with Texas is (or Houston at least) is everything is a pretty good drive. My mother lived in Pennsylvania so I'm familiar with the north. You drive anywhere up there for an hour and you've crossed 3 states

This translates to higher mileage. I'm selling a 1997 Z71 ext cab. Truck has 129k miles and it is in great shape. Pictures are in the for sale section of this forum. Asking price is $8750. I think the owner will take $8500. PM me for info if interested.

Yeah, sounds high to me too, I bought my 97 chevy (short bed reg cab which are harder to come by) two years ago, nearly brand new condition, 75,000 miles, 350 Vortec engine, Z71 package and all for 8800... area makes a difference too, you wouldnt happen to be in WV would you Mountaineer?

Yup, down here in the southern part in Princeton! I dont know if it's like this up in MoTown, but trucks here are outrageous, being IF you can find one. 2X4's go for nothing, and 4X4's go for gold. I drove the '97 I started this thread about, and it was too much work. Needs new tires SOON, before hunting season, and needs about $300 of interior work probably. I'm still looking though, found a '99 Silverado that caught my eye, might check on it soon! I started out with a '96 Tacoma, ran great, but being a single cab I didn't have room to fart. Went to a '96 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and then All-Time 4X4 gave me 12 MPG which wasnt cutting it. Finally I got a '00 Subaru Legacy GT sedan because of gas prices and I thought I would be going away for college, but I'm staying right here. So with that being said, I gotta get a truck before hunting season starts and the snow falls!

Something must have been wrong with that Jeep, my brothers 93 Grand Cherokee 4.0 Quadra Drive (All wheel Drive) gets decent millage as does my other brothers 94 Grand Cherokee also with Quadra Drive with the 5.2L which I am going to buy soon as a toy
