2002 chev silverado 2500 HD,8.1L Engine stalled while driving.Towed to dealer and was told the camshaft position sensor is faulty and my VehicleOne extended warranty would pay for part and 6/10 of hour labor to replace.

Bad news on removing the faulty sensor only 9 of the 18 inches came out and are unable to remove the rest without an engine tear down. Big $$$$

Was curious if anyone else has had simular experience.

Sadly, this is not an uncommon occurance. Due to the location and lack of access, when the sensor breaks off, it's a bear to get out. I haven't had the pleasure myself, but I've seen one of the guys in our shop get the broken section out. I don't know exactly how but apparently it can be done with luck.
