Violent shaking

I did a search and didn't find anything related to this issue. My boss has an 05 crew cab z71 Silverado. He went home to NY last week a 10 hr drive. On the way home while driving on I-95 doing 75 the trucks front end and steering wheel started to shake violently, he said it was not just a shake but to the point that he thought the wheel was going to come off and the dash was going to fall off the truck. A really violent shake. It lasted for about 10 seconds or so and went away as fast as it happened. This happened about 6 hours into his trip. No other problems the rest of the way to NY. The whole week while he was home nothing but on the way back to NC it happened again 4 hours into his trip. He said it was a serious violent shaking of the steering wheel to the point that it almost put it into a blurr. Nothing on the road, dry sunny day no heavy traffic just normal interstate driving doing 75mph. The truck is at the dealer now to see if they can figure it out. Anyone have any ideas? Not sure the mileage on the truck, maybe 8k miles, not sure it is only a year old. It has me stumped since it just comes on so sudden and then doesn't happen again for a long time.

Wow, that sounds uncool. I have not run into that problem. I will do some checking into it, post back with what the dealer finds.

Most likely he won't believe this, but I would most likely bet that he picked up some sort of debris and it took 10sec. to throw it off. (Which was actually more like 5 sec. because if it were me, theres no way I'd be driving at 70 mph for 10 sec. w/ my truck shaking that bad, probably just seemed like 10)

Ever done any circle track racing? When you get up out of the groove or under caution, you pick up a small chunk of rubber that comes off the tires, it feels like the car is going to fly apart, shaking like you've never felt. Usually it is here and gone w/in a matter of seconds. It's possible he picked up a piece of rubber from a semi or something of that nature.

You know he could of clipped some poor highway workers and that was the debris under the truck. Does your bosss wear glasses per chance?

I agree...when you pick up debris like and arm, or part of a finger caught in the tread...it DOES throw it out of whack!

Update on the shaking. The dealer here did a nation wide search on this and said that there has only been two other instances of it happening. It looks to be a bad brake booster/master cylinder. It wasn't really explained to me very well other than if it happend you are suppose to pull up on your brake peddle and see if it stops the shaking. Since it is still under warranty both the master cylinder and booster are getting replaced. Last thing that needs to happen is to have one of the other family members driving the car and it happen and they flip out and loose control of the vehicle.
