I'd recommend a few things.

1. get your radiator flushed and boiled. you may have sludge built up in it, reducing your ability to cool.

2. check your cat, make sure it's not plugged (can add undue heat)

3. try getting a lower temp thermostat (stock is like 195, a 180 would be better)

John i had the same prob but I did not have time to get it fixed because I totaled the truck before I could get the prob fixed! When yours over heats does it lose power bad? Mine would feel like a five speed with the clutch about to go out but only it was a auto. I am glade I totaled the truck because the in the 4 months I had it it had to go to the shop 3 times. First the window messed up, next some kind of traction bar around the real axel came off, then the over heating prob...great looking truck but had way to many bugs!!!

yeah, it does, it's weird, it sounds like your riding the clutch, but it is an auto. i just havent had a chance to get it back in to the shop. i'll trade it in before the warranty is up. i'll just keep taking it back til they fix it, or replace everything.

my 91 blazer does the same thing, (I did what he suggested, and it still does it) i think it is a problem with the V6 4.3 motors.

I know this is an old post but i own a 03 ZR2 and the problem is the radiators and heater cores clog on these trucks cause of the red antifreeze that Gm uses. Get it flushed out and change the coolant to the ole green stuff that should solve your problem
