hi guys/gals...there's a screeching sound when i make hard turns..like the sound you get when you're turning in a parking structure. what is this? i've had the steering fluid topped off just the other month..thanks in advance :)

I'm probably wrong, but I'll go ahead and throw it out there. Could it be your tires? Mine are bald and they screech if I take any turn faster than 10 mph.

1. Is the screeching coming from under the hood?

2. If #1 is yes, during the turns is the steering wheel all the way over to the stop?

If both are no, than it will more than likely be your tires.

sounds as if the sound is coming from the tires somewhere, not under the hood. i hope it's just the tires. and no i'm not turning the wheel all the way..its kind of like a "burn rubber" kind of sound..maybe i'm turning too fast

My truck does the same thing.

Drives me nuts! Sounds like you're doing donuts when all you're doing it turning into a parking spot.

By the sound of it...pardon the pun...you just need some new skins. Invest in a nice set of tires and you'll be good to go.

The tires on there now are almost brand new....were only used for 4 months when I put them on this spring. I used them 3 winters ago and then switched to real winter tires. Kept these Firestone tires (OEM) and put them back on this summer.

They started to make noise only a couple of weeks ago.

Try rotating the tires and see what happens, that should help make sure. It would suck to get rid of a set of tires with good tread on them...but there are some bad tires out there. I have a set of Bridgestone Duelers A/T 265/75/16 and love them.
