on my 05 gmc seirra 4x4 work truck ext cab, i was told by the dealership guys that i have a selectable locker in the diff of my truck, instead of limited slip like i thought it was. i noticed in the rain it woudl only lock and pitch side ways on right turns(i like to pretend i can drift lol), it used to do it both ways when i first bought the truck. does anyone have any info on this package? is it good, bad ok whatever, or kno where i can find the info, like a web site, i believe eaton made this rear end for gm. do they have clutch packs like a limited slip? and does it really only work under 5mph like i heard? thanks any info would be great. seems to work really well off road, i can go 2wd like i was in 4wd or like i actaully had a locker.

Check the codes in your glove box. You will most likely find G80. This is the infamous GM gov-loc, gov-bomb, Timex locker, etc...

I have always owned old body style trucks (or OBS, 88-98) so I don't know if the G80 was still used in 2005.

Basically this differential will lock the rear tires together when one side spins about 100 rpm faster then the other side. It will then unlock over about 20mph, so it was designed for low speed traction. The problem with the G80 rear-end is that all the force of wheel lock is held by a small toothed pin and the teeth on this pin have a tendency to shear off over time, basically rendering the G80 an open differential.

I have a 97 and my G80 is shot. I plan on putting in an Eaton limited slip, or a Detroit Truetrac when funds are available.

i have heard of that before, i think its like the same thing, makes a popping noise when it engages if i pitch it sideways. think that might be the pin, who knos. thanks for the info ill check the glove box.

shure the button isn't ride control or traction control. dealer told me my ride control button was traction control also thought it was a front wheel drive truck.

i dont have any buttons.. mines a work truck, got the lever to select 4wd, and certianly no traction control, i actually like the manul 4wd, wish it was manul hubs too. frt wheel drive? no one should think that. but yeah, i was just wondering if there were cluching disks on the sides of the carrier bearing like limited slip, cause like i said when i go way it dosnt lock the other wheel, so maybe the clutching disks wernt engaging, i know that can happen on a limited slip rear end. alos still looking on gettin some info on this deal i have, maybe pics or a blow up of how everything is put together, i dont have a manul yet, i should tho cause my warrenty is up, they hardly sell parts for these things cause they are too new for checkers or wutozone to have in their system, and there are differences between the 04's and 05's the only way i could get brake pads for my truck was to order for an 06 cause when i ordered for an 05 they gave me 04 pads, maybe mines a late model 05 who knos but it was hell to get them almost paid the dealer 150 bucks for them, cause i couldnt figure out why they didnt have the correct ones at the parts stores.
