2000LTZ71 Posted July 25, 2002 Posted July 25, 2002 Has anyone here taken a long enough trip ( all interstate ) to find out what the range is for the 5.3litre 1500? on my current tank of gas I'm at 315 with just under 1/4 tank left. I'm very curious what I would get on a full high way ride. anyone getting up around 18 mpg with a 4x4 1500?
pipermaru9 Posted July 25, 2002 Posted July 25, 2002 A few weeks ago I drove from Birmingham, Alabama to Atlanta and my MPG rose almost 1.85 per gallon from 15.7 (what I get normally) to 17.5. Anyway, FYI. I thought that was a good increase. My tank range is about 3 gallons. The low fuel light came on at around the 390 mile mark.
gmcjoe Posted July 25, 2002 Posted July 25, 2002 With mixed driving, I can go 350 miles easy on a tank of gas. I'm not too easy on the pedal on the right either ;)
2000LTZ71 Posted July 26, 2002 Author Posted July 26, 2002 Thanks for the info guys. I too am a little heavy footed at times and I'm at 350 on the one tank right now. the fuel light has been on for about 15 miles. I'll probably get up to around 360 and then fill it up and see how much Gas was used. I'm getting around 15.5 mpg usually with mixed driving. I was hoping 400-410 would be possible with all high way driving. This is so much better then my dodge could ever have thought of getting. I love it.
silverado man Posted July 26, 2002 Posted July 26, 2002 I've gotten up to 19mpg's all highway miles driving between 70 and 80.
AU Chevy Posted July 26, 2002 Posted July 26, 2002 I am at 412 with about an 1/8 tank left. Almost all highway. Of course the needle does fall faster after it reaches 1/8 tank. Average speed was 75MPH with 3.42 ratio. Usually get 19.5 on interstate.
gmcjoe Posted July 26, 2002 Posted July 26, 2002 Yeah, that 3.42 helps alot on the highway compared to my 3.73
MarkD Posted July 26, 2002 Posted July 26, 2002 AU Chevy, You have a 2 wheel drive don't you? GMCJoe, That could make 1-2 mpg difference also. Average mileage for my first 1385 miles is 15.868 with mixed driving. Soon to have K&N FIPK numbers.
BuckMaster Posted July 26, 2002 Posted July 26, 2002 See my profile below, with my 3.73 rear end I get consitent 20 to 21 mpg on hiway trips.
WEFs99 Posted July 26, 2002 Posted July 26, 2002 Just filled up at WaWa ($1.299) 388 miles on 25.44 gallons.15.25 mpg. 50% highway 50% 'rural'. Last summer on a round trip to Ocean City Md. it got it's best of 18.2 and I'm happy with that. Surprisingly, towing a Dodge van for over 200 miles, it got almost 15.
AU Chevy Posted July 26, 2002 Posted July 26, 2002 She's 2WD, couldn't see myself offroading with a new truck....plus couldn't afford it. I didn't want to finance. My best was 20.5 MPG my worst was 13 MPG ( towing 2500lbs with a bed full of stuff at 80 MPH in 3rd)
k1500chevy97 Posted July 26, 2002 Posted July 26, 2002 highway about 480 miles and intown/country roads about 400
jr.parrish Posted July 26, 2002 Posted July 26, 2002 Holy ####!!!!!! I took a trip all interstate from here in VA to Rockport, Mass (outside of Boston), and averaged 15.3 mpg. However on Daily driving I get about a 230!!!!! mile range on a tank! But even when the low fuel light comes on I have never put more than 22gallons in. So if you figure that, that means I average 10.4 mpg. Any ideas why? Its the 5.3, and it doesn't make any since to me.
AU Chevy Posted July 26, 2002 Posted July 26, 2002 Just filled her up. 22.6 gallons @ $1.29 with 432 miles on the tripometer and the needle was at the last white mark. Let's see that comes out to.....19.115044247787610619469026548673 MPG. not bad almost as good as my s-10.
