Radio No Worky

Here's the situation. Bougth this truck about 3 months ago and the CD player wouldn't eject CDs due to a bad shuttle. Bought a new-to-me radio off eBay. It wasn't out of a Silverado becasue some of the buttons were slightly different, but I got it programmed at the dealer and it's worked good ever since. I recently installed a sub and ran it off the factory system using an adaptor that spliced into the factory wires in teh fuse panel. Today the radio quit working all together. The display showed up and functioned, but the time display reset and no sound would come out of the speakers.

Me thinks this is a fuse issue, so that's going to be my first check. If that doesn't work I'm going to replace the factory head unit with an aftermarket one adn run the sub off the pre-amp outputs on it. My question is this...what is involved in this transplant? iv'e read of adaptors but can't get any definitive answer. My truck has the steering wheel audio controls and OnStar, which do not work right because if you press the seek button the "OnStar Ready" voice comes on. On Crutchfield's site they say that their adaptor is not compatible with OnStar. What gives?

I'm almost to the point where I want to take it to a stereo shop and let them deal with the headache and make sure it's done right.

So I'm guessing you want your steering wheel controls to work but you don't care about on-star?

Correct. I don't subscribe to OnStar and would be happy to totally disable it (if someone can tell me how.) All I'm interested in is getting an aftermarket unit to work with my steering wheel audio controls for basic functions (channel changes, track change on CDs, and volumne adjust.)

How did you make out? My Bose 6 CD radio died last weekend. Driving along made a funny sound and went dead. Removed radio fuse and put back in and radio display came back on. It ejects/loads CDs, even tells you what song is playing on the Radio but no sound out of the speakers.

Sounds a lot like what happened to yours.

Do you know if this Radio go to an amplifier for directly to the speakers?

I have a 2003 Isuzu Ascender, aka GMC Envoy.

Thanks,

Carl

@Ascender(Carl)

I don't know if you have figured out your issue, but I'm in a similar situation. The volume on my radio stopped working, and then the battery started to go dead every 2 days. I discovered that it's the OEM radio amp. So I pulled that fuse(Radio Amp), and the battery drain stopped. For my Denali the dealer told me the amplifier is $600+ then needs to be reset, so total with labor is looking to be over $1k. So I'm looking into buying an after market deck and various adapters(to keep the steering wheel controls, onstar etc.) as an alternative, and to save $500-$600.
