Uneven tire wear

I have a 01 Tahoe with 107,000 miles. The tires are starting to wear in the outside but it's not the normal alignment-needing wear. It's like a skip wear cause when I run my hand across the outside of the tire, it has a wave-like feel. What could be the cause of that? Thanks.

Is this full time 4wd?

No 4wd. Aftermarket tires, stock wheels.

The tires are cupping due to an alignment problem. What that problem is, offhand I can't say. I'd go have it inspected and fix whatever it is though. And if your tires aren't directional, have them put those tires on the back and opposite sides from where they are now to smooth them out.

Indeed that camber may solve the problem, but that if there was even wear on the outside edge.

The toe could possibly be out, which can cause the same problems.

 

That is depending if the tire is feathering. If it is starting to cup, you could have a suspension problem, shocks, ball joints, etc. Which may point back to the needed alignment. I'd check the toe first.

Not arguing the possibilities...just going by what my remedies were in the past with three GM's I've owned.

For some reason they like the camber negative...

I wore out two sets of tires on a 91 S-10 before I took it to Goodyear and they cured the problem since it was their tires..NO HELP whatsoever from GM until I made em' pay the bill from Goodyear

I sure appreciate this guys. I am about to add rims to my truck and I wanted to correct this problem first.
