Welcome wap18,

Many, many folks run synthetic atf in their Allisons. I highly recommend it.

There are basically 2 types of synthetics that you can run in the Allison.

1) Synthetic versions of DEXIII such as M1 ATF, Amsoil, etc........

and even much better ....

2) Allison approved Synthetics such as their own Transynd, QuatrSyn, etc.... that meet Allison's tough TES-295 spec. These 295 spec fluids are more expensive then the synthetic DEXIII equivalents.

Allsion recommends Transynd. Have 1000 vehciles in our fleet using it.

when we were running dexron we were having all kinds of problems in out Allsions, due to excessive heat from the retarder going into the oil and just cuasing it to break down. Running thee Transsynd has cleared up the problems.

you can buy it at an Allsion dealer( detroit diesel)

I doubt Amsoil will be any better than Transynd, which is a Castrol product. we get it by the barrel at my job. Good stuff.
