Brake replacement/upgrade?

Hi.

2002 (build June 4, 2001) Chevy Avalanche 1500, Z71, 48K miles.

I will be needing new front brakes very soon. Where can I get inexpensive parts? Where can I have it done inexpensivly? The rears I had done at 43K and cost over $500 for the local Goodyear Autotech to do. I am very sensitive to cost, but am also unhappy with the current front brakes and would like more if it doesn't cost much. The current brakes get a little soft after one 60 MPH stop. What can I do to prevent disk squeal?

On the topic of brakes, the rear brakes now squeal almost everytime I stop. The original brakes never squealed. I believe that the Goodyear service place used GM rotors and pads (I think each rotor was about $500).

I just did a complete rear break rebuild (except for calipers) my 01 Sierra. Mine were squealing pretty bad after 86k miles. My cost on parts was $400 and about 2 hours of my time. That was for 2 rotors, wagner ceramic pads, and the GM emergency break rebuild kit. The pads looked like they had another 10k on them. I had the infamous bad clip design on the emergency break. While mine didn't break it did loose it's tention and the E-break slipped down and had nice metal to metal contact with the rotor. It had made a nice 1/8 inch groove in my rotor.

I replace the front & rear rotors & pads on my 01 Yukon last November. I got a kit from Summit Racing it was made by Stainless Steel Brake Corp. it came with 4 slotted rotors, Performance Friction front pads and Hawk rear pads. SSB is very well kown in the brake world. The kit was $400.00 (Summit Part# SSB-A2351022). I took about $ hrs to do.

Brembo is the OEM supplier for Delco rotors. I bought OEM replacement Brembo rotors for my Yukon off Tirerack for a fraction of the Delco rotors. Because I got 55k miles on the original Delco pads, I stayed with them for $99/axle.

You mean you bought the pads at a GM dealer, or Brembo makes the pads and you bought them at tirerack or???

I just recently swapped out front and rear brakes on my 2000 Silverado with 99k miles on it. I went with Raybestos ceramic pads on the front mated with Brembo (non-drilled) rotors. On the rear axle I went with Autozone's Durastop rotors and Durastop ceramic pads. Here is what I remember the costs being:

Brembo rotors (each) = $49

Raybestos ceramic pads (front set) = $79

Durastop rotors (each) = $35

Durastop ceramic pads (rear set) = $39

I also used Advance Auto coupons at Autozone to reduce the price even lower. So that might be an option if you have both stores in the same area.

So far everything works great and it took about 2 hrs to do both axles. You can definitely beat the Goodyear price that you mentioned.
