Hello from a new guy.....and a question

I've done a search and I'm not finding many 0-60 times for the 5300 trucks. These aren't sportscars but the acceleration is very surprising. I've not done extensive testing but I've seen 0-60's in the mid 8's with my truck. Does that sound about right? It's a Z71 ext/short bed with 3.73's.

BTW, this is a great website I look forward to learning from everyone's experiences as questions come to mind.

Motor Trend got a Silverado extended Cab LS 4x4 0-60 in 7.8. Of course those guys usually have times a lot faster than others, so don't try to get yours that fast stock, it seems those guys are about the best in 0-60.

Truck Trend specs... from the June 2001 issue.

0-60 7.79s

1/4 mile 15.83s at 87.06mph

Test truck was a 5.3L Chevy Ext Cab with 3.73s and 245 tires.

Dynoed rw hp and torque was 221/266. This configuration easily outperformed in acceleration the F150, Ram 1500 and Tundra loaded with 1000lbs in the bed and empty. All trucks were 4wd ext cabs with the largest offered engines for each model.

That's great performance considering the size and weight of these trucks. I had a feeling it would do 7's. Now I see that they are capable although my 285's won't help .

Randy, there is a lot of 5.3l/4.8l performance info on the LS1.com truck forum

I think my truck slowed down after the 285s too ;)

Why are the 4.8L and 5.3L and maybe the other 2 new engines associated with LS1s????

Cylinder head technolgy along with the AL cylinder head.

I'm not cetain if they share the reverse-flow cooling systems

as the LS-1 , but I'll betcha somebody in the forum knows.

I lost some performance with my 285s but I got some of back with the K&N FIPK. I hope to get the rest of it back when I install a cat back exhaust system.
