New 2002 Tahoe LT and some Questions...

Hello All,

 

Well, I have been reading this Fourm for a while now and the time came to make good

on my dream.... I have bought a new 2002 Tahoe LT, Charcoal Grey, Sun Roof, Wheel

Flairs, Tow Package...

 

I have put on about 1400 miles and have made one big trip last weekend. I went up

North to the Calif Coast to do some Abalone diving with 4 buddies. This trip was one

I have made many times, but never in the lap of luxury that my Tahoe delivers. Power

was great, Hightway 1 tight turns were easily handled in spite of the 5,000 lbs! All

my buddies were continuously commenting on the ride! It was worth every penny!

 

My last truck was 1977 ElCamino that I have owned since birth(the truck). It was a

great truck and the drive train was a winner. This is why I went for the GM V8 instead

of a 6 from some where else. Go with what you know!

 

My El Camino was a great truck that I drove to Tahoe for ski trips a total of 12 time

last Winter. I live in the SF Bay Area and round trip is about 450 miles. 4 of those

trips were full out snow runs with chains on!.  It was a great truck and it NEVER let me

down. Now that I have the Tahoe, I can't wait to make that first trip come winter. I can

only hope that this new ride will give me the 24 years of service the Elcamino gave.

 

I look forward to doing maintainence on this truck as best I can handle. I know this

fourm will be a great resource...so thanks ahead of time .

 

I have a couple questions for everyone. The first is the first flaw that I have found with

my Tahoe. It is a small one, but a crutial one. I can't get the oil cap off! It held the

neck of the filler and try hard to turn the cap off. It turned slowly, but did not release.

Am I doing something goofy here?

 

Next question....I want to get mud flaps for the wheels. I have the wheel flairs. What are

my options for all 4 wheels? Which ones work the best, look the best.?? Where should I

get them?...Online? I want these for the snow to protect the paint.

 

Last question. .... I also want rubber floor mats for snow. Which ones are the  best value?

Anyone find the right mats?

Yes, Mudflaps will likely be molded if you have the flares.  I passed them up on mine not having flares and only debating the idea after having the truck 3 years.  Next time maybe.  As for the mats, Ryan's link is good as well.  Huskyliners are molded to the floor and available for both front and rear.  Got them for my Silverado and they are much nicer than the regular, heavy black mats with channels I had...they'd find a way to leak water somehow after the snow melted.  Congrats on the new ride.

The oil cap is bayonet mount similar to 1157 light bulbs and not screw type.  Turn counterclockwise about a quarter turn or more and lift straight off.

Welcome to the fprum and congrats on the new truck.  I too, am running the Husky molded flaps and after about a year they are still holding up well.

 

The Husky floor mats will serve you well, but with a sweet leather lined "LT", you might want to consider something like the "CatchAll" carpeted mats.  They are formed to fit each application, and the color match to your carpet will be as close to perfect as possible.  They also have a lip to retain the crud from your boots, and are easily cleaned by removing them and hosing them down...

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the Tahoe.  I have a 2002 Tahoe LS.  I went with the Nifty Products Catch-All carpeted mats for my front and second seats.  I took the third row seats out (wrapped them up for storage) and got the Nift Products Catch-All Xtreme for the rear cargo area.  I really like the combination, carpeted up front and rubberized in the cargo area.  The fit and color are excellent.  I ordered from Mats4Less.  I was happy with them.

I also have the wheel flares and I also plan to add the Husky Custom Molded Mud Guards.  Just have not gotten around to that yet.
