Install a Plow on nice toy?

I have been thinking about it, I have heard both sides. I wanted to hear your thoughts. I have the 5.3 aluminum block. Obviously I dont have any accounts. If I do hear positive, has anybody done it, and how long do you think it will take for the plow to pay for itself? Besides the obvious abuse, what about the torsion bars, it seems they wouldnt stand up like coils?

Hello. I have the same questions. I have a 99 Z71 with a 5.3. I was offered a great deal on buying the plow and couldn't refuse. I just had it installed about a month ago.

My truck having the tow package, already has a factory transmission oil cooler. To help with sag in the front end due to the plow, I cranked up my torsion bars to the max. I levels out the truck when the plow is not on. I have not noticed any difference in the quality of ride since adjusting the bars.

My brother installed Timbrens on his truck. They are just larger...'jounce bumpers?' that only allow the truck to bottom out so far. They cost about $160. He said it does ride a bit rougher, but after the winter season, he'll remove them and put the stock ones back in.

I myself am wondering at this point how often my plow will get used and how long will it take to pay for itself, my break even point.

Anyways, good luck!

I hate to pull this thread off topic (sort of), but can someone explain to me exactly what the snow plow prep package adds/changes? I have this option on my hd and im wondering if there is anything that adds more suspension to the front end to carry the weight of the plow. Im looking to get a winch bumper one of these days and the thing is like 180lbs. I'd feel a lot better about it if i knew it was designed to hold some extra weight.
