Emergency Brake Cable

Sorry this isn't about my truck but i need some help and hoping somebody could help me , my daughter has a 1998 Malibu and the emergency brake doesn't hold at all , i need to get this car inspected for her and this is the only thing wrong with it ( we just bought this for her , it's her first car ) is there anyway to "take" the cable up ? and if there is how do i do it ? Thanks again for your help !

It's probably not the cable but rather the e-brake assembly itself at the rear wheels. On that car I'm not sure if you have drums or rotors. If you have drums you probably need to adjust them (maybe time for a rear brake job?) and it SHOULD fix the problem. If you have rotors, I'm not sure if they're set up like my fiancee`'s Jimmy with an e-brake drum inside the rotor or if it's part of the caliper assembly...You'd have to do some investigation to find out.

Yes this car has drums on it , but after i went out thurs. afternoon to look at it i found that the cables had pulled apart at the piece that hooks both together the other day it was like that so it must have happen when i went back out a tried it again anyhow not sure if i will have to get new cable or not but will ttry this weekend and see what i can do , the drums and shoes look very good now for my truck it has the drums inside the rotor now is there a way to take them up just like a reg. brake ? i just put new rotors and pads on it but not the e-brake shoes never gave it a thought . thanks for the help !
