fuel pump

I am taking a motor out of a 92 3/4 ton truck and putting it in an 84 3/4 ton truck. I have changed the intake manifold so that it will run off of a fuel pump instead of being fuel injected. The problem I have encountered is the rod for the pump. I am not very mechanically inclined but I am trying to learn, so could someone please help me on how to get the rod out of the old motor and into the new motor. Your help will be appreciated.
