What do I need to clear a code from my PCM?

I recently replaced a bad fuel pump on my 01 2500HD 6.0 CC. After installing the new fuel pump we discovered that there is a secondary signal that comes in from the PCM to the underhood fuse box to power the fuel pump when the iginition is on. After talking to a friend of a friend who is a GM tech he said that when the fuel pump blew that it probably tripped a theft deterrent/accident code of some sort in the PCM, shutting down power to the fuel pump. I pulled my Wait4Me PCM and replaced it with my stock unit and sure enough we were back in business.

Now I need to get this code cleared from my Wait4Me PCM. I've been driving around with my stock unit and hating every minute of it. Can I just take the PCM into a shop or do I need to drive in and swap it so they can clear the code with the PCM installed.

Stop by your local "Wally World" aka: Wal-Mart, and pick up a DTC reader. I saw a couple of models there last week (both read & clear dtc's) and one of them was only like $30 bucks!

Take it home, put in your Wait4Me tune, and try clearing the codes. If it works great. If not , then simply return the unit for a refund. Hell, you could even return it after having cleared your dtc...assuming it works.

I'll be picking up a unit myself.

Also, most auto part stores will loan you a code reader for free. If you're using it in the parking lot, they'll probably just want to hold onto your license while you're using it. If you need to take it home, they will want a deposit for about how much it would cost them to replace the reader.

thanks,

I'll check out wally world. I have heard that some auto parts stores carry scanners that will read codes, but will they also clear codes. This is what I need....

Yes, the auto parts loaners will clear codes. The only hassle you may have is if they don't loan it out, but instead read the codes for you. They don't like to clear codes, because they think you might be trying to hide a fault for emissions purposes. In this case, explaining the situation may get you around that problem.
