Should I make the trip?

I can get the Rhino done about 5 minutes away. Line-X is about 2 hours away... which means TWO round trips for TWO people since I'll have to bring it there the night before, leave it, then have my friend drive me back home... only to go out the next night and pick it up.

 

Or am I better off going with Rhino?

 

Everything I read here seems to indicate that Line-X is better... and I know we don't sort of need another Line-X/Rhino thread... but I'm clueless on this one.

 

Any help would be appreciated,

go to any auto parts store and pick up the HERCULINER pack for bout 50 bucks, and roll it on yourself.

I would not base my decision on the trip itself, because you are stuck with the liner you go with, for the life of the truck. I have dealt with both brands. If you like cosmetics and are not planning on throwing tools and materials into the bed everyday (100% work truck), the Line-X definately looks better. The glossy look. The Rhino liner seems to be a little thicker and a little more rugged. It probably repels dents a little better. I know you did not want to start this thread, but you kind of asked the for it. . You can't go wrong with either.

I would stay away from this option...there is a reason why it is DIY and $50...thats just my opinion...i have the line-x and love it...i don't have any experience with Rhino but Line-X is great...my truck bed gets alot of use and so far so good

I am very happy with the Line-X liner. After TONS of research I came to the conclusion that Line-x was the way to go for both looks and durability. I'm not trying to get into an arguement with a Rhino liner owner, this is just my opinion and sounds like he came to the same conclusion.

 

Did they tell you you had to drop it off the night before?

 

It only took about 3 hours, with appointment, to spray the liner. I dropped my truck off at 8 AM and it was done at 11 AM same day. You may want to just drive out there and bring a book to read, deck of cards, some magazines (just something to pass the time).

 

It will take a bit longer if it's wet weather as the tech will have to completely dry the bed prior to the application (about an extra hour).

I had an 01 Silverado with a Rhino and my 04 has the Line-x. Both were about 2 hour drives so no advantage there. The Rhino has a more rubbery feel. The line-x seems like its more scuff and damage resistant. Either would be fine I suppose, but whatever you choose look at the work of the installer. As mentioned before the Line-x is cured almost immediately, so there's no dry time. If you could bring a book and kill some time you might avoid the two trips. Based on both my trucks I'd say the Line-x is the better product, everything else being equal. Honestly, though, if you get a good install either liner will probably last as long as you will need it. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Yeah I forgot to mention that it took about 4 hours total for mine to get done. It was dry they just said not to put anything heavy in the back for a day or so. Im sure you could drop it off and pick it up in the same day.

Wow only took an hour and a half for mine to get done... LineX and I am very happy with it, had it for about 3 years and the only issue has been UV fade which will happen no matter what.

I found a Line-X Guy closer... looks like I'm going to go with Line-X. Although I think I'm going to wait for him to do it... I'll spend more time driving than I will waiting. That's silly. Thanks for the tips!

I went with a product called SteelEX. Probably similar to a linex or Rhino liner. I've had it for 2 years now and its still like new after much use and sitting out in the sun. No fading whatsoever.

Well I got my Line-X today!

 

This stuff is AMAZING!!! The guy was a one-man show. He was very anal about masking and prep. He basically wrapped my entire truck, minus the bed in blast, paper and tape!

 

He had a clay planter pot (terra cotta kind) coated with the Line-X. Threw it in the air. It bounced!

 

I looks great too! I'm not sure if I made the right call going under the rail. With my Extang, I'm a little concerned about rubbing on the top of the rails... but it's done now... under the rail. $425. I went for an extra $50 and got it between 3/16" and 1/4". Line-X makes the dealers use a digital gizmo to show the customer the thicknesses in different spots and such. Very cool.

 

In the end I highly recommend Line-X... if it holds up as good as it looks I'll be loving it!

O there is definitly nothing wrong with it, It is along the lines of looking like Line x. Its much better than Rhinoliner too. Ive seen those flake after being sprayed on!

lots of people use the stuff on off road rigs too

On an older truck I would probably have tried the Herc. but I don't think I would have the nuts to do it on something new... watching him rough up the paint was enough for me! :!
