Well i am really interested in purchasing one of the new IVA-W200 Alpine units, BUT, my installer is insistent on the fact that the W200 will not fit in my 2006 Sierra. He says that the W200 is true double din and the Factory radio isn't, but i have my factory radio from when i put my Alpine CDA-9855 in and it sure as hell looks double din to me.

Any help would be aprreciated

Recently installed a Double DIN Kenwood DPX-501 unit in my '05. Fits perfectly in the factory opening, nothing to cut, file or trim. There are install kits available but the only thing really needed are the little brackets that will use the factory mounting points to hold the new unit in place. I did not purchase a kit, just fabed a couple brackets from heavy gauge sheet metal with nothing but a ruler, tin snips and a drill, yeah I'm a cheap S.O.B.

This is exactly how I hoped it would look. I think that just made my decision about the DPX-501. Is that the trim ring that came with the kenwood unit, or something from a kit?

Trim piece came with the head unit. Only thing needed is a couple brackets to mount it. Can probably purchase a kit or just fab them. Unit is a hair crooked in this pic (had to tweak the brackets) but it fills the stock opening perfectly.

Thanks for the info. I have a scosche kit for a single DIN, but I'm not sure that will work. It's nice I don't have to cut anything in the rear.

yeah you definitely can fit a "true double din" your installer is just scared to do it because he has to do a little trimming inside the radio opening. the bottom of the inside of the opening will be sloped down towards you. this will interfere with the radio sliding in. and mounting down. simply get a cutting tool, dremel or even a hot ass soldering gun, and cut that plastic piece out, end to end. i have a "true double din eclipse navigation in my 03 silverado, and i installed a DD in my dads 05 3500duramax silverado. its all the same shizzle. so do it. the alpine unit is tight. although they claim to have a naviagtion option available for it, i have yet to see it available. oh btw, you need a DD dash kit for the two side mount brackets, possibly the data retention harness depending on your year make and model of features installed on your truck, about 100.00, and an antenna adapter. any more questions let me know! peace!
