Side Bed Rail Caps...

Recommended Posts

Ok. So I have the Extang Full Tilt Cover on the way. The bed is Line-X'ed under the rail, and now I want protect the tops of the side rails. The rail between the cab and the bed is line-x'ed and the tail gate had a liner from the factory... so only the two side rails are needing to be covered.

Question. What's the best one out there that is NOT going to rub the paint/clear coat off my truck? I'm looking at the ProCaps by BAK... but I don't know if they are considered the best...

What do you think?

(And yes... all this has to work with the eXtang Full Tilt, etc.)

Thanks,

Pete

I put the GM factory bedrail caps on my 2000 GMC. I have a rhino under rail liner and an Extang soft tonneau, fits great

gmcjoe,

what keeps the rail caps from rubbing the paint off?

Nothing apart from the adhesive pads. I had my rail caps removed after 2 years to fit a fiberglass cap and I have marks in the clear coat where the edge of the rail caps rubbed along the length of the bed side. I am sure I'll be able to cut most of it out though.

No marks yet. I had the POS hard plastic wade caps on before that. Those cracked in no time and rubbed nice marks in the paint.

These are much softer. They ran about $100 shipped from a buddy at a GM dealership. For the best deals online, checkout www.partszoneonline.com - REAL shipping charges.

Thanks for the tips Joe.  I think I may go with the GM ones... what order should I do it in?

Do the rail caps go on first?  then the extang?

Thanks again.

Yep, Bedliner, bedrail caps, then the tonneau frame

For pricing, checkout https://www.partszoneonline.com/ (they are a preferred vendor, see the link on the left side of the forum). They actually answer the phone and reply to emails within one business day and are very helpful

then you use those part numbers to shop price on the net... those are the list prices I do believe. I don't know what the heck the difference is between the removable stake pocket covers and just having holes... unless they charge that extra money for the plastic caps to cover the holes?

Mine have the caps over the holes. The tonneau cover actually covers up most of it anyway.
