'06 Silverado Z-71 rear differential cover gasket

I called a local dealer and they said for my '06 Z-71 there is not a gasket listed for the rear diff cover. Can that be right. He said just use some RTV and it will be fine. Anyone else with an '06 run into this? I've seen the GM part # 26066456 float around.

 

Won't sythetic fluid eat away RTV?

Maybe because I'm still young and learning....I thought I read somewhere that sythetic fluid will eat away RTV. My bad.

All engines have some rtv at gasket corners and differentals have some on the covers too.

Thats the right number. I changed mine last week to Amsoil....but this has turned into a nightmare. I stretched one of the upper bolts (I barely tightened it), I really cant believe it didnt snap....but now the cover is leaking anyways after I run the darn truck, so I need to do it all over again. Hope you have better luck I have had with it

Good to know! I picked up some of this Permatex on the way home....will this work OK to seal up the diff?
