Is it just me or does the thought of a typical driver, a Hipo vehicle, wet and curvy roads sound stupid to anyone else other than me. Just saw the new mustang"cobra" ad. A german guy says "what's the matter couldn't find a good enough german car" Then flash to the new mustang passing ferrairi's and lambo's and stuff in the rain on the autobahn. The american guy says "no, just couldn't find a speed limit I liked in america"(what about montana? still got a open hiway?) then flash to him flying down a strech of highway in the rain. Maybe the europeon guy's are driving slower cause it's wet. Hell I would keep it under 140 if it was raining even on the autobahn. The typical mustang buyer can't handle the car when it's dry and now they think the rain is easy? Unfortunatlly I notice this in all ads from corvette to mazda evidentlly a wet road is more enticing to speed than a dry one. Probably just photographs better. Oh well just a little peeve.

Yeah, I think it's just that it looks cooler.

I'm fine with it....Hell, the only ad I've seen for the TBSS has it banging around off-road before hitting the track.

Like THAT'S going to happen.

I thought it was an awesome commercial :flag:

It's no different that the one where the Tacoma is jumping canyons like a skate boarder on a half pipe :D

Or maybe the one where the truck is rolled around in waves, the waves reside, and the owner drives away an unscratched truck....

I'd like to see that in real life

No...they did put up a speed limit in Montana...I think about 90 or 100

Nope, speed limits on the interstate is 75, except in a few areas where it drops to 65. Rural 2 lane roads are almost always 70/day, 65/night. There is also an obscure law that allows you to go up to 10 over to pass someone, so the highway patrol won't even give you a second glance unless you're going over 90 on the interstate (Assuming good weather).

That's also assuming that you even see a highway patrol, I haven't seen one in at least a month. According to their website, they have 200 highway patrolmen. Assuming a 5 day workweek, working 8 hours per day, there is on average 48 troopers on duty at any given time. Those 48 troopers are patrolling an area of 147,165 square miles, which works out to about 1 trooper for every 3,090 square miles on average.

I love Montana

So basically all you need is a good radar detector and you are good to go?

Radar detectors don't do sh*t for laser. I've got one of the best detectors on the market, and it doesn't peep unless they point that laser right at the detector itself (which they don't do).

A laser detector is only good for letting you know you've been busted.

I think this topic is funny only because I am in advertising sales and well this agency accomplished what they set out to do. We are talking about the ad and thats the name of the game right there. Not saying everyone is going to go out and by a Mustand and drive it on a wet road but all they want to do is get people talking about it and I might ad that it doesn't matter if it is positive or negative talk just as long as you are talking about it.

As for radar detectors...yeah I threw mine away a long time ago...(after a couple tickets)...now I did hear that there was one out there that you put in the grill of the vehicle and the company basically guarantees you not to get a ticket and if you do they will pay for the ticket up to like $500 or so...maybe I heard this wrong I dont know

The windshield mount is actually better. Higher up = more range/better visibility for the unit.

None of the "jammers" work, and some of them are outright illegal in some states.

Lots of good info here, but he IS a little biased towards some units (he sells radar detectors too).

I've found the "Bear Reports" on the CB to be far more useful than any radar detector. There's nothing quite as nice as knowing where exactly a cop is, and what he's doing. Once someone comes up with a radar detector that tells me "There's a cop sitting in the center divider, at mile 331.5 with his radar gun out", then I might consider getting one.

My friend has one, its goes off all the time, with cops or no cops around. Automatic doors at stores can set them off. I considered buying one, but then I reconsidered. 1. If Im speeding, Im hauling complete ass, and a radar gun wouldnt be needed to see Im speeding. 2. They go off if a goose s**ts on your window. Just kidding, but they go off too much. 3. If your being radar checked, its too late anyways. 4. I can buy a lot of gas with 150 bucks and go the speed limit.

As for the commercial I saw it the other day, didnt think too much about it. I wouldnt move to Germany to speed on the autobahn, Id just hop on the interstate @ 1a.m. and go as fast as I can.

That's only good on the open road (about all you have up there though).

And Schmids5.3l, I'm not saying that they don't work at all. Mine has already saved me 5 times what it cost by warning me.

But I've never even heard it's warning chirp for laser, and I know I've been clocked with one, because I got a ticket. :fume:
