"Free" fuel filter

Is it just my imagination or did I read a post recently about the "free" fuel filter GM was offering for Dmaxes and there was a comment about fuel mileage going down after installing this filter. I thought I recall some folks opting to replace the filter themselves instead of the dealer. In any case, I had my "free" filter put on a few months ago and my mileage has gone down. Is this a coincidence or is the new "low sulfur" diesel also playing a part in this? Thanks!

A different fuel filter isn't going to affect your mileage.
