New Shocks

Hi folks, I was thinking of getting new shocks for my 2005, 1500 Sierra. Now I don't feel like the ride is bad, I was just wondering if new shocks would improve the ride. My truck has the Z71 package and I believe it has gas shocks. First, does anyone know the brand name that came with my truck and are they any good? I had Rancho RS5000 in my Jeep years ago I liked those. Now I really dont know a heck of a lot about the brands and which is better gas or oil shocks. Any and all inpute would be greatly appreciated. Also for the record, I am not looking for a hard ride but rather a comfortable ride. Thanks in advance, Jake. PS I plan on owning this truck for a while.

At least on my 99, the red shocks were Tenneco's. I replaced them with Bilstein HD's which provided a firmer, yet more controlled ride. For example, the truck would not seem rocky/rough going over freeway expansion joints anymore.

Some GMs came with Bilstein as an option. If you are looking for really premium shocks, go with KYB MonoMax. These are great shocks that are engineered wtih advantages that the normal brands (Monroe & Gabriel) do not offer. Seamless tubesvs welded, seamless mounting ends vs welded etc.

Hi Guys, I put in the Bilsteins, I notice a difference going over a cluster of bumps, but on single ones it seems the same. The true test will be when I tow my boat. Thanks for all your input, Jake.
