Sub sounds like crap after PAC install

I installed PAC AOEM-GM24 adapter in my bose equipped 03 Rado. I hooked up the RCA cables to both jacks on the adapter and it the sub sounds like its in mud.

 

Setup is all factory bose with a Sony Xplode 760W amp and a 12" Pioneer IMPP 450w sub (I actually have 2 of these, but I think one is enough)

 

Which RCA jack do I use, the front or the rear, and second off, how do I adjust the PAC adapter & amp to make it sound ok.

the pac adapter has some little screw adjustments on it. i hook my rca's up to the rear. the pac is usually adjusted at 1/2 way so if you crank it up it should sound better. what kind of box are you using?? if you are using a downfire it should sound great.

I have a upfiring box. But its too small. The box used to be a nice size 2 12 inch sub enclosure, but I made it to fit one sub under the seat. But I'm gonna get a new box, probably tomorrow.

I was having the same issues with my Bose/Nav stereo and PAC adapter. Still am to some degree. I was using a bigass Fosgate amp pushing a couple of Kicker 10's. I've replaced the Fosgate with an Audio Planet amp that has more options/controls, and after toying with it for a while, my sound has vastly improved.

 

I still blame the crappy Bose stereo though. I hate them...I want to stab those people in the face with a rabid chihuahua.

Well, got it hooked up and working properly. Doesn't sound too bad. I just need to get a bigger sub box for my 12". Then it should hit pretty good.

Yeah, I installed it behind the HU, but now when the bass hits hard, the amp goes into overload. Still need to fart around with the settings. Maybe tomorrow.

What makes it sound different in the dash? I currently have mine in the console. Could you clarify a little more? Very curious about this. Thanks! :cry:

Make sure you install that adapter behind the factory head unit and not in the console! It sounds alot different behind the HU.  :D

if you have a factory sub you should get it at the powered outputs that go to your sub. they are better signal.

 

 

 

Yes I did just that. I am running a 600W JBL 1 ch amp and am using spkr-level inputs because this amp will automatically turn on/off from this signal...I didnt have to run a remote wire. After first tapping into the blose front door speaker wiring (subs sounded crappy) and then the rear speakers (even worse) I realized that there must be a crossover or high-pass filter on all the door speakers. I tapped into the factory sub wires and voila, I got decent bass. I am still wondering if there is a certain frequency cutoff (low frequency) to the factory sub and if using the PAC adapter with RCAs would sound any better, bass wise. Has anybody else hooked theirs up to the factory sub wires coming off the bose amp? :)

so i take it your amp has high power in??? if not, yea, use a Pac LOC. most of the time you will get a better signal.

Well it is coming from the factory subwoofer amplifier, my JBL amp level is only up about halfway I believe, but my stereo bass setting is normally almost all the way down to keep the factory speakers from distorting so I suppose that this amp can take in a signal like that. I was just asking because I know the factory sub is small and I didnt know if they cut off a certain low frequency and below so it wouldnt damage the little factory sub. My bass seems to not be as loud on the low low notes, so it would either be this or the box maybe isnt the best shape and size for the subs.

    • Enjoy the new truck, it’s a beauty. I’m glad you’re keeping the OBS, I love those old trucks. 
    • With large equipment or deep mud it is more of a use the higher gear to avoid spinning tires, getting stuck because of spinning tires and doing damage to your machine. The idea is if you run out of torque before you spin tires you can still downshift for more torque. If you are just spinning your tires in the lowest available gear you are stuck and things break.   Automatic transmissions, traction control and electronic transfer cases change the calculation a little as you the driver have less control over each piece. 
    • are there any codes? with lots of rust, perhaps disconnect/clean both sides of the connection/examine cable ends (the wires) for corrosion going into the sheath & replace if necessary/reconnect ALL the power AND ground cables between the battery, engine, frame, cab, fuse box and starter charm.li (website) has a no-start diagnostic procedure you can work through to get it working.
    • Its no wonder you've gravitated to the oil types and brands you have in later years after trying certain brands and one being a specialty oil or at least very hard to come by up here and the other would have been a commonly found oil of the era and the vastly different outcomes as a result to using the vehicles in question the same distance for an OCI . It shows what marketing hype can do without actually having the product to back up the claims and that is no different now with the insane claims that are written on the side of a bottle of oil from some of the off the shelf oils.    What has surprised me and I was already finding this out before I bought my truck with the GDI engine, that this newer fancy technology that seemingly would suggest better fuel economy/emissions with this high pressure spray of fuel is not in reality kind at all to the engine or at least the oils life. Yet they insist on claiming long OCI with this technology just like they did with the port or similar type fuel injection systems when in reality its a step back in oil life to have a GDI system.    I think the mistake your making Grumpy is that your not sending your samples to Blackstone and getting the feel good glowing report that you can run it another 1000 or more miles and then send another sample where they say run it yet another 1000 miles and on and on it goes until your sending in something that looks a lot like road tar and then they may suggest you change your oil within the next 1000 miles 😆
    • I am guessing that engines of that design back then had a better ability to be abused and survive longer than a new design engine with the long timing chain and the overhead cams and phasers etc. But I would never guess that an engine could go that far and not fail spectacularly or at least die a slow death.
