I think the truck will give chevy a run for their money; I think that's why GM stepped up the release date. I think it looks better than the GM's but the nose could look a little better. The 5.7L is supposed to produce 381HP.

I hate to say it but the new Chevy and the new Toyota look too similar. Thankfully GM hasn't ruined the GMC yet, so as long as they don't I won't have to go buy a Ford.

If toyota comes out like rumor has it with a 2500hd/ 3/4ton 4x4 6.0+ / diesel, gm will have their ass handed to them.

its ugly as hell. Just look, none of the door handles or tailgate handle match.

They havent announced the HP yet, I think MSNBC speculated it

It doesnt hold a candle to the new GMCs either!

Lol!! The Cylon thing is an accurate assessment.

They (the Toyota's) are butt ugly from the pictures I have seen but they will probably sell well anyway. The front end looks hideous.

Put one of those red LED moving lights in the grill and there you have it...an evil Cylon...lol!!!

It's like the previous Tund and current Titan. The ones that buy them are:

1. 1st time truck buyers that get giddy over 320HP at 8000RPMS and no flat tq curve cause they use the luxo Lexus/Infinity V8's not understanding they are trucks.

2. former 1st time truck buyers that bought domestic and still have no clue that they bought a truck not a CTS-V or M5

3. very small percentage that are trully disgusted with the domestics.

If they did start selling 12K+lbs 3/4 diesels, will still be sold to the clueless but utimately won't sell well for the same reasons plus:

Toyota and Nissan and basically the "baby pretend" players in the international heavy truck market. The biggies are Isuzu, Hino, FUSO. Actually Toyota is almost non-exsistent in that market. The Japanese big 3 (with Mercedes) also dominant the international medium-duty market.

Isuzu has a decent market in the US because GM rebrands them for the US market.

But then again people bought the pet rock and even the iPod when there's the iRiver and equiv for 20% of the price. And the ones that solidify for me the 1st type of buyer I listed that use a PSP as a PDA for business (yep...laughed my $%^ over that one for days, he could play games, watch an expensive video, but unable to bring up the calculator and the phonebook)

Actually Hino is part of the Toyota group, a huge player in Japan and in many parts of the world. Fuso is Mitsubishi, ND is Nissan. GM doesnt just rebadge Isuzu, GM went to Isuzu for their expertise in building diesel engines. Isuzu is one of the world leaders in diesel technology.

It's a global economy and just because the names are different in other parts of the world, it doesnt mean they aren't real players.

I spent a long time at the SEMA show talking to the GM people about not building the GMT 900 HD trucks with an 8.1 anymore. If they wont make what I want, I'm sure as hell not going to stay brand loyal with a $35k+ purchase just because they are GM anymore. Not saying I wont buy a GM, but when you dont listen to the customer...well..we all see the results.

I find the trucks styling very awkward and somewhat ugly, BUT I'm sure the truck will meet and/or exceed all of GM's specifications. The current tundra sells about 130K trucks per year. I'd be willing to bet this new one will sell at least 200K the first year and then it's "game on" to see where it goes from there.

Toyota has done thier homework and studied the "domestic" trucks for years... this truck IS NOT a joke. It's a serious player now.

Actually it looks just like the Tacoma but with those 'can't seem to throw the design away' taillights...but it'll probably wn a truck of the year thing 'cause the design is a reeeaaally unique never seen before as they vote while getting their lunch in a Tacoma.

While the big block has become part of the American auto culture, I sure love them myself, as mentioned it's a global economy and the big block gas will not sell very well internationally. So if the American 2.5 automakers want to sell the recent flagships of the american auto scene, the light-duty (1/2, 3/4, 1) will have to be diesel to be globally viable. It's not just GM that seems to be dropping the big blocks towards the diesel. Even as highly efficient that the small block has become in the last 5 years or so (power to weight output ratio), being gas makes them difficult as well internationally.

This is strictly out of curosity, not a diss.....

Why the need to have a light duty class truck (1 ton) to haul to the max in it's class of nearly 8 tons+ instead of just going with a Class 4 truck (4500/5500)? Is some of it to avoid the hassles of a commercial drivers license? (I believe just about all states it's legal for recreational use without a CDL)

Darn I took a left turn somewhere....

1. The Tundra ain't a GM so the majority here of course won't like it out of spite

2. same is true for the F-150, RAM, Titan...and those brave few, Ridgeline

3. Every one of them have Pro/Con features that will get incorporated into each make/model at some point

Actually, the tundra will not be in the running for this years "truck of the year" because they pushed the release date back to february. According to motor trend Toyota saw GM's interior and redesigned theirs. But it will probably win it for next year.
