Carolina06SierraZ71 Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 06 GMC Sierra. Do I have to install the VSS wire in order for the Navigation System to work correctly, or is it ok to leave it off? I have a Dlephi TNR800. Thanks
deadringer Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 You don't have to have the VSS wire... but the nav will be really jumpy on updates without. I thought that all trucks 2004+ had the VSS wire standard... are you sure yours is missing?

Are you saying all 06's have the DSS wire there, so I do not need to install jumper? (install directions said not necessary as well) Problem is, I just installed the Nav today and tested it out, seemed slow & erratic. Do you have to set it up or calibrate it? I am not that familiar with the Delphi TNR800 as I have owned a Navman ICN635 in use in my 02 Silverado since new, but wanted the factory look for the new ride. Not happy with it this far, maybe I am missing something. Any suggestions or assistance would be appreciated. Thanks
go0ky486 Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 yeah supposedly the wire should be there. i installed one in my dads 05 3500 dually. the wire was in the smaller of the two harnesses in position E just like the instructions said. basically without the vss wire your nav shouldnt be giving you turn by turn guidance when in route mode. i cant remember if i had to calibrate it. but i do know that it was acting like a b*!@# when i first tested it. it kept thinking i was in maine, but im in california. it was weird. but afterwards it all seemed fine. yeah my dad was after the factory look too. i have an eclipse unit in my silverado and it works awesome for me. hope this helped!
Mike M2 Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 It's not always there. I've had to run a VSS several times from the cluster, green/white pin A4....

Everything working as it should. Thanks for the input!
