Service 4WD Message

Alright i know the Service 4wd message is a message i expect to see on a 4x4 but i have a 2wd GMC Sierra Extended Cab short box. Now i know the message is probably in the PCM if i had any 4wd components but i dont. It has been on for a few hours.

 

I was rolling down the highway and the DIC came up with a "Service 4WD Message" and I was well kinda confused. Can anyone shed any light on why my truck is possesed.

Your 2WD thinks she is a 4WD, she is telling you you should have gotton a 4WD

Take a closer look. Maybe you have a 4WD drivetrain that GM mistakenly installed on a 2WD truck.

well, honestly i wanted a 4WD, but alas all i could afford was the 2wd. But the wierd part is that i have a 4wd T-Bar frame and what look to be mounting locations for a front diff and T-Case. Go Figure

You have what GM secretly refers to as "phantom 4WD system".

 

I would say take it to your local dealer and ask them to service the 4 WD system, and see what they have to say about it.

Tell your dealer that the 4wd fell off your truck, and that under warranty you'd like them to reinstall a new one!!!
