Installing OEM foglights

I just bought a 07 Silverado 2500HD Classic two weks ago. One option I wanted was the foglights. Being a do-it-yourselfer I bought the kit from GM. I followed the intructions exactly. First I installed the cargo/fog lamp switch. Then removed the old valance. And installed the new valance. Installed the fog lights and then the fog lamp relay in the BEC.

The next step was a little confusing. Hooking up the wiring harness. It stated I had to pull the cover off the BEC, lift up the BEC panel and hook up the single wire to to terminal D6 on the lighting block. The diagram showed one thing and the instructions are stating D6. Once I confirmed which terminal was D6 I found wires already hooked up here. Two purple wires. I remembered seeing a plug taped up to the wiring harness on the drivers side near the radiator core support. So I checked the Passenger side and found another plug with the same purple wire. (Note-the plugs also have a black wire going to them-the ground). So it was safe to say, my truck was already pre-wired for foglights!!

The last step is to have the BEC programmed to "see" the foglight circuit. But guess what? It also was complete and the test of the fog lights was sucessful.

So in short, before you go through all the trouble to open the BEC panel, check and see if your truck is already pre-wired for foglights.

Hers a pointer for a bit more light. Take out the original bulbs and put in a set of 9005 (hi-beam). The original (9140) is 40 watts vs the 65 watts from the hi-beam lamp. I've been running mine for a year and a half and it works a lot better than the stock bulb with no adverse effects.

Great advice. I think I'll wait till a light bulb burns out before I start replacing them. BTW- I added the 6 HI mod kit. Throws alot of light on the backroads here in PA.

Whats year of trucks does this work on. I have a 2000 silverado and I tried it on there but the plugs were different and the 9005 bulb would not fit in the fog light housing either...?

Ridgekid, Can you supply me with the right part #. See my post on the other forum. I'm dealing with a parts guy, who can't verify that the 2006 kit, part # 17802547, will work on the 2007 Classic. Did you use this part #, or another # issued for 2007? Thanks for your help.

I bought the same kit of Ebay for my 01. My BCM wasn't programed from the factory so instead I just hooked up a relay to the switched 12v from the parking lights. Now my fogs are on anytime my parking lights are. It's cool when I walk up to it and the fogs blink with the keyless entry. I've also done the High 4 mod so now I've got low beams and fogs on when I hit the high beams. It's so bright now, don't know how I drove at night before, just don't use the highs in town:). I didn't know I could swap out the 9005 bulbs. I'll have to try that.

The 9005 swap only works on the 2003-2007 Classic models. The 99-02 takes a 880 bulb i believe which is totally diferent. Hope this Helps.

The 9005 swap only works on the 2003-2007 Classic models. The 99-02 takes a 880 bulb i believe which is totally diferent. Hope this Helps.

So what other bulb could I use. Is there anything brighter than the stock 880?

You could use 883 bulbs they are 37.5 watts vs 27.5 for the 880 bulbs. I believe there is an 885 bulb which has an even higher wattage around 50 watts or so. I would be scared of melting the tiny foglight housing in the 99'-02' models with anything higher than 37.5 watts though.

i threw silverstar hi's in my 03 silverado get flashed sometimes though but thats ok, i have the 6 light mod, so that means when i flash them , my real brights come on to equal daylight

It it possible to put the 03-up big square fog lights on the older model 99-02? I like the mass light that the 03-up projects and wondered if i can install them on my 2001 truck
